Hurricanes vs Flyers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Hurricanes' advanced numbers are as solid as ever, and Neil Parker believes there's a real opportunity to fade the Flyers tonight, who have been lucky of late based on those same stats.

The Carolina Hurricanes visit the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center for a Metropolitan Division matchup on Wednesday, November 20.

While Philly has strung together a solid 4-1-1 stretch, they draw a tough opponent tonight. My top Hurricanes vs. Flyers predictions and NHL picks expect Carolina to pad the win column with a road victory tonight.

Hurricanes vs Flyers prediction

My best bet
Hurricanes in regulation (-133 at Pinnacle)

My analysis

The Carolina Hurricanes are running over teams, per usual, and their underlying numbers are jaw-dropping once again with an NHL best 59.8 Corsi For percentage and 58.8 expected goals percentage at 5-on-5.

Carolina also sports an eighth-ranked power-play percentage (23.7%) and fifth-ranked penalty-kill percentage (85%). Still, this handicap is more about the negative regression coming for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Philly is flying along on a 4-1-1 stretch, but just a single win came in regulation. Additionally, the Flyers have seen their team shooting percentage (9.15%) and team save percentage (.942) skyrocket from 7.85 and .869 figures through their first 13 games.

Philadelphia deserves credit for its 50.0 xGF% during the run because they had a miserable 43.9% mark prior. Still, the Flyers haven’t improved their possession game with their 45.4 CF% only slightly above the 45.0% share through their first 13 contests.

Simply put, Philadelphia is riding an unsustainable scoring surge paired with elite goaltending at 5-on-5.

The Flyers are turning to Ivan Fedotov between the pipes Wednesday, and he sports an .856 save percentage and 3.98 GAA with -10 goals saved above average across just nine NHL appearances (seven starts).

Carolina cruises tonight.

Hurricanes vs Flyers same-game parlay (SGP)

Hurricanes in regulation

Andrei Svechnikov 3+ shots on goal

Jordan Martinook 2+ shots on goal

As noted, the Flyers aren’t a strong possession team and sport a 28th-ranked 45.1 CF% for the season at 5-on-5, while Carolina wingers Andrei Svechnikov and Jordan Martinook enter with respective 59.4% and 61.5% marks.

Additionally, Svechnikov paces the Hurricanes in shots (12.3) and attempts (22.8) per 60 minutes, and Martinook has recorded two or more shots in each of his past eight games.

Finally, I also value that Svechnikov and Martinook have only shared the ice for 2:45 this season, so they won’t steal shooting opportunities from one another.
