The Toronto Maple Leafs (11-6-2) are rolling right now despite missing their captain. They’re 5-1 in his absence, largely due to the collective group all stepping up and all playing a little bit better.
One player in particular who is surging right now is Bobby McMann. The Leafs winger is on fire with goals in back-to-back games, earning the moniker Bobby McMatthews.
McMann was elevated to the top line three games ago, and since then he has three goals on 17 shots while averaging 17:30 a game, an increase of over four minutes of his season average.
More ice time = more opportunity.
McMann averages 2.61 shots per game this season, but that number has risen to 5.6 since being elevated to top-line duties alongside John Tavares and Mitch Marner.
The betting line for his shot prop is set at 2.5 tonight. He’s cleared this number in all three games since the promotion and should be poised to do so again tonight against a Vegas Golden Knights team giving up an average of 29.4 shots per game over their last five outings.
McMann is also getting to the right areas of the ice to find success as he has seven individual high-danger chances over the last three games.
This should bode well against the Knights, who sit in the Bottom 5 of the league in scoring chances and high-danger chances given up at 5-on-5, according to Natural Stat Trick.

McMann has been dangerous for the Leafs, scoring three goals in as many games as McMann, Tavares, and Marner rank fourth in the NHL in goals per 60 minutes. McMatthews has been the finisher within the combo with three tucks in just over 25 minutes of 5-on-5 play.
Additionally, the Golden Knights have not played well defensively this year, and the goaltending has been poor, with a team save percentage of .892.
These two teams combined for 7.05 goals per game this season and scored 18 times in the two-game set last season. I bought the total down a tad because the Leafs are playing elite defense and the games at Scotiabank Arena have averaged just 5.46 goals per game this year.
