Vancouver has struggled to protect home ice this season, but the Canucks are deserved favorites vs. the Flames, who are on the second half of a back-to-back, tonight.

With their three-game win streak up in smoke, the Vancouver Canucks again try to get sorted on home ice when they host the Calgary Flames on Tuesday, November 12 at Rogers Arena with the puck drop slated for 10 p.m. ET.

With an assist from the schedule makers, my Canucks vs. Flames predictions call for Vancouver to straighten things out with a much-needed win after a 7-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers last time out.

I break down why tonight's result will be different in my NHL picks below.

My Canucks analysis

It’s early in the year, but the Vancouver Canucks' home woes should be worrisome, considering they’ve been outscored 13-3 in the last two games at Rogers Arena.

At 1-2-3 in front of the home fans, the Canucks own the fewest home wins in the NHL and rank 30th in home points.

Vancouver’s 4.67 goals against in their own rink is the worst mark in the league, a stark contrast to the 2.00 GAA on the road, where it’s tied for the second-best mark in the NHL.

The Canucks are still down top goal scorer Brock Boeser (upper body), so it’s unlikely they’ll want to get into the kind of shootout with the Calgary Flames they had on opening night when they lost 6-5 in overtime. And despite the home struggles, this matchup will ultimately serve as a get-right spot for Vancouver.

Calgary isn’t an offensive juggernaut, and even with that six-goal outburst, it's putting up just 2.5 goals per game on the road this year.

Vancouver’s poor man-advantage numbers — a weak 14.3% success rate at Rogers — will welcome a Calgary side that ranks Bottom 6 in the penalty kill, with just a 72.3% success rate.

The Flames will also be playing the second night of a back-to-back for the second time this season. While they have a win in that situation this year, it was a real struggle for them a season ago, when they went 1-6-1 on the second consecutive game night.

The Canucks have not lost to the Flames at home in regulation over the last five, going 3-0-2.

Canucks vs Flames Over/Under analysis

Despite their home woes, Vancouver is still a crisp 7-2-1 in its last 10 games. The Canucks are also a reliable 7-1-0 in their last eight as moneyline favorites.

The Over is 4-2-0 in Vancouver home games this season.

With its 3-1 win over the Kings last game, Calgary picked up its first win in five games. The Flames have seen the Under cash in six of their last seven games.
