The Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers are set to meet for the second time in four days following Vancouver's massive 8-1 win in Wednesday's season opener.
Brock Boeser exploded for four goals to tie a franchise record while Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl combined for just two points in the loss.

Canucks vs Oilers predictions
Vancouver’s 8-1 win over Edmonton likely stands as the biggest shock of this early NHL season, but you’ve got to give credit to the Canucks’ stars for showing up. Brock Boeser potted four goals to tie the franchise mark for most tallies in a game while J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson had four points apiece and newly-named captain Quinn Hughes had three assists from the blue line.
At the other end of the rink, it was a disappointing start to the campaign for reigning Hart, Art Ross, and "Rocket" winner Connor McDavid, who collected just one assist, while running mate Leon Draisaitl scored the only goal for the Oilers.
It was a dominant win for the Canucks but you’ve got to think it was a one-off and we should see the Oilers respond tonight in front of their home crowd. McDavid, in particular, should be due for a bounce-back performance as he has historically put up tons of points against Vancouver. In fact, his 62 points in 38 meetings vs. the Canucks is his highest total against one team and 10 more than any other club.
That said, I’ll look for the Oilers captain to respond with at least two points in tonight’s game.
My best bet: Connor McDavid Over 1.5 points (-175 at SIA)

Canucks vs Oilers same-game parlay
We’ll lean heavily on the Oilers in today’s same-game parlay, taking them on the moneyline while also looking for McDavid to open his scoring account this season with a goal. Edmonton was a much better team than Vancouver last season, outpacing them by 26 points while making a push to the second round, so I expect them to bounce back with a win tonight.
We’ll also look for the goals to continue flowing, taking each team to score at least three apiece. Edmonton was the NHL’s highest-scoring club last season with 3.96 goals per game while Vancouver was slightly above average at 3.26 GPG.

Canucks vs Oilers moneyline and Over/Under analysis
The Oilers come into this contest as the clear favorite on home ice, opening at -197 and getting a bump as high as -222 at some books by Saturday morning. After an embarrassing loss in the season opener, you’ve got to think that McDavid & Co. will want to come out flying and respond in the rematch in front of their fans at Rogers Place.
Edmonton certainly has the edge on paper and the trends seem to back them up as well, with the favorite going 6-2 in the last eight meetings between the clubs. McDavid torched the Canucks for five goals (tied for most vs. any team) and seven points in three meetings last year, so I expect him to lead the charge in an Oilers win tonight.
The total opened at a lofty 7.0 but I’m still going with the Over following a nine-goal explosion in their first meeting of the season.
The Over was 56-31-7 in Edmonton’s contests last year (regular season and playoffs), while they also tended to play high-scoring games following defeats. The Over is 6-1 in their last seven games when their opponents score five-plus in the previous game and 4-1 in their last five contests following a loss of three or more goals.
