The Vancouver Canucks welcome the Minnesota Wild to Rogers Arena for a Western Conference tilt between a pair of postseason hopefuls tonight.

Both clubs are dealing with injuries, and my Wild vs. Canucks predictions anticipate both continuing to struggle offensively.

Canucks vs Wild prediction

My Canucks pick
Under 5.5 (-119 at Pinnacle)

My Canucks analysis
The Vancouver Canucks have played to the Under in eight of their past 10 games, and leading-scorer Quinn Hughes (undisclosed) missed Wednesday’s contest and isn’t 100% healthy. His status for Friday remains uncertain.

Vancouver has also been a mess offensively since trading away center J.T. Miller. The Canucks rank second last in five-on-five goals per 60 minutes (1.58) and third last in goals per game (2.27) through 11 contests since the transaction.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Wild miss superstar Kirill Kaprizov (lower body) in a big way. He’s been out the past 12 games, and Minny sits third last in goals and second last in expected goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five during this stretch.

Making matters worse, No. 1 center Joel Eriksson Ek (lower body) is also on injured reserve, and go-to defenseman Jonas Brodin is week-to-week with his own lower body injury. As a result, I don't expect the Wild to have a lot of offensive success tonight.

These two teams are also sound defensively. Vancouver has allowed the third-fewest expected goals per 60 at 5-on-5, and Minny has surrendered the fifth-fewest.

Canucks vs Wild odds analysis

There has been a small move to the Vancouver side of this moneyline at Pinnacle. The shop moved from an opening Canucks -120 to -128 as of Friday morning. If it’s announced that Hughes won’t be in the lineup for Vancouver tonight, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was buyback on the Wild.

As noted, the Canucks have been an Under machine of late, so it isn’t surprising to see the higher vig on the Under 5.5 at Pinnacle. There hasn’t been early action on either side of this total, and I doubt we’ll see much movement unless the shop opts to test a 5.0 number.
