The Philadelphia Flyers return home to take on the Washington Capitals at the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday, December 14.
The Flyers had a successful road trip with wins in Arizona and Colorado before earning a point in Nashville, and Washington is also coming in hot with wins in its last two games. NHL odds have Philadelphia marked as the favorite, but I'll be looking at the NHL player props market to find the best value in this matchup.

Capitals vs Flyers odds
Capitals vs Flyers predictions
The Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals are both exceeding expectations in the early going, each currently in a playoff spot in the competitive Metro Division.
The Flyers are playing great hockey as of late, currently riding a six-game point streak while also going 10-3-2 in their last 15. John Tortorella’s squad is getting contributions from up and down the lineup.
One of those players that’s contributing a decent amount is Owen Tippett. The former first-round pick has 17 points in 28 games and is being aggressive in getting pucks on net. He has 95 shots (3.39 per game) thus far, including 48 shots in 13 home games (3.69 per contest).
Tippett has had four shots in each of his last two games and at least three in eight of his past nine. That one exception wasn’t for a lack of trying, though. Tippett had six shot attempts in the lone game but only found the net twice. That’s about in line with his shot attempt totals over the last few weeks.
The Capitals are in the bottom half of the league in terms of shots allowed per game, allowing the 13th-most in the league at 31.2 per contest.
It's not rare for Washington to allow closer to 40 shots on goal. The Caps allowed 38 to the Stars, 36 to the Golden Knights, and 39 to the Kings in recent games. The Flyers are up there with those teams in terms of possession numbers and could pile on the shots on Thursday night.
Tippett has gone Over 2.5 shots on goal in 17 of 28 games this season, including nine of 13 at home. He’s gone Over 3.5 in 13 games and Over 4.5 seven times. This could be a good ladder opportunity as well.
My best bet: Owen Tippett Over 2.5 shots on goal (-166 at DraftKings)

Capitals vs Flyers same-game parlay
I'm adding the Flyers team total Over 3.5 and Capitals TT Under 2.5 to pair with my best bet.
The Flyers are one of the best teams in the league in generating offense with a xGF/60 of 2.70. Meanwhile, the Capitals have the ninth-highest xGA/60 at 2.75 this season.
Philadelphia has scored at least four goals in 13 of its 28 games thus far, including in two of the last three contests. Washington is coming off back-to-back wins but allowed four or more goals in each of its previous four games for a total of 19.
As for the Caps TT, I don't have any faith in their 30th-ranked offense nor their NHL-worst power play — especially against Carter Hart who hasn't surrendered more than three goals in his last four starts.

Capitals vs Flyers moneyline and Over/Under analysis
The Flyers odds opened at around -115 but they're now up to as high as -145. The best odds you can get on Philadelphia are -132.
The Capitals are up to +120 underdogs after opening closer to even money. The total is set at a rare 5.5 with the Over 5.5 at -117 and Under 5.5 at +104.
As you can tell by the SGP, I’m heavy on the Flyers tonight — especially as only -130 favorites at home. I would also lean to the Over 5.5 given the Capitals’ lackluster defense.
