My analysis
When these two teams met on March 9, the game got a little out of hand as far as the scoreboard goes. But with the importance of the two points on the line tonight, I think we will see a much better defensive effort from both sides.
Since their loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the New York Rangers have put together strong back-to-back defensive performances. In their last two games, the Rangers have allowed just four goals against, and Igor Shesterkin was in goal for both of those contests.
Since the Four Nations break, Shesterkin has gone 4-3-2 with a .906 save percentage and a 2.76 goals against average, but in his last two starts he’s boasted a .923 save percentage with a 2.00 goals against average.
Since the break, the Rangers and Blue Jackets have both struggled on the man-advantage, so neither of those necessarily pose a threat. Both teams are in the Bottom 5 of the league right now on the power play, as the Rangers are 28th at a 12.5% success rate, while the Blue Jackets rank 30th at 10.5%.
