The Ducks come into Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena for Thursday’s clash with the Predators a bruised and battered hockey team. Anaheim coach Dallas Eakins said several players, including leading scorer Troy Terry, second-leading scorer Trevor Zegras, top penalty killer Jakob Silfverberg and fourth-leading scorer and team captain Ryan Getzlaf didn’t participate in Wednesday’s practice.

The Predators are coming off a dramatic 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Dallas Stars that kept them in the playoff hunt. Nashville has one of the wild card spots but is only a point behind Minnesota for third place in the Central Division.

Here are our free NHL picks and predictions for Ducks vs. Predators tonight, March 10.

Ducks vs Predators picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Moneyline analysis

The Predators are still very much in the playoff picture, despite going 4-6 over their last 10 games. They have won their previous two, defeating Central Division rival Dallas, 2-1, and crushing the lowly San Jose Sharks, 8-0.

Nashville’s offense has been led by Filip Forsberg and Matt Duchene, who each have 27 goals. Roman Josi is tied for seventh in the NHL with 45 assists.

But, it’s the defense that has kept the Predators in games this season. They are seventh in goals allowed and goalie Juuse Saros has the sixth-best save percentage at .924.

The Ducks were second in the Pacific Division before the All-Star break with 55 points and a record of 23-16-9. Since then, however, they have gone 4-7-0 and slipped to fifth in the division. Anaheim was embarrassed on Tuesday, losing on the road to the Chicago Blackhawks 8-3. Tonight’s game is the second of six road games for the Ducks.

The team got some help on the blueline when Andrej Sustr was claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay on Tuesday. He will help bolster a defense that is 19th in the league in goals allowed and 26th in shots on goal allowed.

Prediction: Predators moneyline (-189)

Over/Under analysis

Though the only time these two teams met this season the 5.5 total went Under, the Ducks were a much healthier squad. In its last 10 games, Anaheim has been outscored 46 to 36.

In three of those games, the Ducks’ opponents (Calgary, Edmonton, and Chicago) scored six or more goals. The Ducks’ offense has played admirably considering the injuries, but ranks in the lower half of the league in goals (21st) and shots on goal (22nd).

The Predators have had their own worries scoring. Though they are 14th in the NHL in goals, averaging 3.11 per game, they are 27th in shots on goal. They should, however, be able to take advantage of the Ducks’ defense.

Where the total might be decided is on the power play. The Predators are eighth in the league on the power play, while the Ducks are seventh on the penalty kill.

Prediction: Over 5.5 (-120)

Best bet

Though the odds aren’t great at -189, the Predators on the moneyline is the play here. Nashville is on a two-game winning streak, seeming to find its stride after an embarrassing loss to the expansion Seattle Kracken three games ago.

The Ducks have shown they are struggling because of the injuries and that doesn’t look to right itself against a team that is determined to get in the playoffs.

Nashville wants to keep pace with Minnesota in the Central Division and a victory here could put it in third place if the Wild lose to Detroit.

Pick: Predators moneyline (-189)
