The Calgary Flames begin their two-game road trip against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday evening at the Xcel Energy Center, and the NHL odds have the Wild as -170 favorites.

Calgary has scored three or more goals in each of its past two games, and my Flames vs. Wild predictions expect this trend to continue Saturday night.

Read on as I explain my NHL picks for Saturday, January 25.

Flames vs Wild prediction

My Flames pick
Flames Over 2.5 total goals (-120 at BET99)

My Flames analysis

The Calgary Flames may not have the highest-scoring offense in the league, but they can still score three goals against the Minnesota Wild.

The Wild are not a poor defensive team, but goaltender Filip Gustavsson has struggled to keep the puck out of the net lately.

Gustavsson has surrendered four or more goals in each of his past five appearances in the crease. He is 0-4 over that stretch with a .844 SV% and 5.27 GAA.

A problem that Gustavsson deals with is Minnesota’s poor penalty kill. Entering this matchup, the Wild ranks 30th in the league in penalty kill percentage.

It also won’t help Minnesota’s cause that defenseman Jonas Brodin has been shifted to IR.

Brodin is one of the team’s better defensemen in its own zone, and his absence has correlated with the Wild surrendering more goals.

They have now allowed three or more goals in six of their past eight games.

Flames vs Wild same-game parlay (SGP)

Flames Over 2.5 total goals

Jonathan Huberdeau anytime goalscorer

Nazem Kadri Over 0.5 assists

If we are backing Calgary to record three or more goals, then we need skaters to find the back of the net. Enter Jonathan Huberdeau, who leads the team in both goals and power-play goals.

It is on the power play where he is likely to find success against Minnesota’s poor penalty killing unit. Furthermore, if we are backing Huberdeau to score, Nazem Kadri will likely be involved.

Kadri skates alongside Huberdeau on both the first line and first power play unit and has assisted on three of Huberdeau’s past six goals.
