The Colorado Avalanche are returning home after a three-game road trip, and the Vegas Golden Knights are playing their third game of a road trip and third game in four nights.

This game doesn’t necessarily have significant standings implications, but both teams are still trying to get hot at the right time.

Find out why my Golden Knights vs. Avalanche predictions and NHL picks for Tuesday, April 8 are siding with the road team.

My best bet: Avalanche moneyline (-130 at FanDuel)

My analysis
The Colorado Avalanche look like a team that can go on a run and win the Stanley Cup, but then again, so are the Vegas Golden Knights. Both teams have been putting up some incredible numbers since March 22, but to me, the Avalanche have the edge.

Colorado is 5-2-1 in that span, and in those games, they’re scoring the sixth-most goals per game (3.63). They also have the 10th-best goals against (2.50), the fifth-best power play percentage (31.6%), and the 12th-best penalty kill (82.6%) in that sample.

Cale Makar, Nathan MacKinnon, and Devon Toews have each put up 10 points in their last eight games. Makar and MacKinnon each have four goals with six assists, while Toews has tallied two goals with eight assists.

Mackenzie Blackwood is the expected starter for the Avalanche tonight, and his numbers have been decent over this recent stretch. He’s skating to a 4-2-0 record in his last six starts while producing a .901 SV% and a 2.50 GAA, but also has a +1.4 goals saved above expected.

The Avalanche have been a strong team on home ice all year long (25-11-3), and with a fatigued Golden Knights group coming in, I think they take care of it.

Golden Knights vs Avalanche same-game parlay (SGP)

Avalanche moneyline

Cale Makar 1+ points

Over 5.5

Makar is currently riding a four-game point streak and looks to be taking the lead in the Norris Trophy race. In those four games, Makar has tallied three goals and four assists, and there is honestly a case to be made about him in the MVP conversation. Makar is a key contributor offensively night in and night out from the blue line.

Both of these teams have been averaging north of three goals per game since March 22, with the Avalanche at 3.63 goals per game and the Golden Knights at 3.44. The Avalanche have scored 11 goals in their last two games, and the Golden Knights have scored six.
