Tonight's jam-packed schedule will be capped with a fun Pacific Division battle between the Vegas Golden Knights and Los Angeles Kings – two teams with playoff aspirations.
My Kings vs. Golden Knights predictions see star defenseman Shea Theodore building on a hot start with another strong offensive showing.
Let’s break it down with my October 22 NHL picks.
Kings vs Golden Knights prediction
My best bet
Shea Theodore Over 0.5 points (+105 at BetMGM)
My analysis
Shea Theodore is off to a stellar start with seven points through his first six games. He’s done his best work on home soil, where he has five points over just three games.
He hit the scoresheet in two of three in Vegas and piled up 11 shot attempts in 23 minutes of ice the night he failed to do so. He’s making a lot happen offensively each night.
Theodore leads the Vegas Golden Knights in time on ice and has been on for more chances than anybody else on the roster. He’s playing a ton and being spoon-fed offensive zone starts, which makes it easier to create offense.
He’s not just getting cushy minutes. He’s skating with elite offensive players in said minutes. Theodore has shared the ice with Jack Eichel for 78 minutes, an average of 13 per night.
Eichel has 10 points through six games and has played at a Hart Trophy level, so he’s certainly someone worth hitching your wagon to.
The matchup also looks enticing for Theodore. The Los Angeles Kings have taken an absurd amount of penalties, spending more than 7:30 short-handed per game. Theodore quarterbacks Vegas’ top power-play unit, so that boosts his point potential.
An added bonus is Los Angeles has very shaky goaltending. Darcy Kuemper is not what he once was — and may not be 100% — while David Rittich is a mediocre backup. The two have combined to post an .885 save percentage thus far.
Theodore was quiet against the Panthers last time out. This is a great spot for him to get back on track
Kings vs Golden Knights same-game parlay (SGP)
Eichel is off to a prolific offensive start but it’s had a lot more to do with his playmaking. Eight of his 10 points have come by way of assist and that’s no coincidence — his shot volume is way down.
Eichel has attempted just 4.7 shot attempts per game with 2.2 on target. He’s gone Under this number in five of six, only getting the job done against a poor shot-suppression team in the St. Louis Blues.
The Kings have done a great job of limiting shots this season. They rank second in shot suppression at 5v5 and eighth in shots allowed per game.
Eichel has a poor shooting track record against the Kings as well, recording three or fewer in six of the past eight head-to-head meetings.
If the Kings limit Eichel’s volume, Vladislav Gavrikov will likely factor into the equation. He’s recorded multiple blocked shots in all six games and is serving as the No. 1 defenseman in Drew Doughty's absence.
