We have 14 games on the NHL betting slate tonight, including a cross-conference clash between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena

Scoring first has been a trend for the Leafs this month. They’ve opened the scoring in eight of their 10 games so far this month.

My Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Nashville Predators prediction has them doing it again.

My Leafs pick: Maple Leafs first to score (-145 at Sports Interaction)

My Leafs analysis
The Toronto Maple Leafs have turned a corner lately, with three straight wins and finally look the part of a playoff team.

Meanwhile, the Nashville Predators have dropped four in a row and can’t find the back of the net.

This is the second meeting between these two teams this year. Toronto won the first match 3-2 back on December 4.

I expect a similarly low-scoring bout tonight.

Although I anticipate a light workload for the goal light operator, I am betting on the Leafs being the first team to tickle the twine tonight.

Toronto has won three in a row and has scored first in each of those wins.

March has been a very fruitful month for the Leafs regarding this prop, as they’ve opened the scoring eight times in the 10 games they’ve played this month for an 80% hit rate.

The Buds are generating and producing more offense too, which gives me more confidence in them scoring more goals than the lowly Preds. Toronto is averaging four goals per game over this three-game winning streak, while the Preds haven't scored more than one goal over the past 11 days.

Nashville is dead last in goals per game this season, averaging a lowly 2.58 goals per contest. Coinciding with that lack of offense is the inability to play with a lead as the game’s first goal scorer.

Nashville has allowed the first goal of the game 39 times this year, the third most in the NHL. It’s also happened in three of the four games on their current losing streak.

So, with Toronto’s offense starting to roll and a strong trend of scoring first, coupled with Nashville’s inability to score in general, I like the odds of Toronto opening up the scoring tonight.

Maple Leafs vs Predators same-game parlay (SGP)

Toronto Maple Leafs first to score

Auston Matthews anytime goal

Toronto Maple Leafs

For the first leg of our SGP, we’ll stick with the best bet and go with the Leafs to score the first goal of the game.

Next up, I’ll add an Auston Matthews anytime goal to the SGP. Matthews has four goals in his last four games and has seemingly turned a corner offensively.

I’ll ride a hot Matthews all day long. He also has eight goals in his last 10 meetings against the Predators, including back-to-back two-goal outputs.

For the final leg of our SGP, I’ll select the Maple Leafs on the spread (-1.5). I don’t have much faith in the Preds scoring a lot tonight given their track record this season.

This is a pure fade play on Nashville, who is 27-41 against the spread this season.
