This series has not gone the way that most people anticipated that it would. The New York Rangers have their backs against the wall, down 3-1 in the series as they return home to MSG.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have dominated the last two games and are looking to put the nail in the coffin and finish the Rangers tonight.

Penguins vs Rangers picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Moneyline analysis

The last two games of this series have been completely dominated by the Penguins, but the Rangers will not go down without a fight. The young Rangers group looked completely rattled playing on the road in front of the Pittsburgh fans, but they should be way more comfortable back on home ice at Madison Square Garden.

It’s hard to imagine the Rangers losing three straight games in this series with Louis Domingue starting in goal for Pittsburgh, but Domingue has proven that he is capable of winning hockey games when it matters. He is currently sporting a .906 save percentage and a 3.40 GAA, so it’s not like he has been stellar in goal, but his team has been excellent in front of him.

The Rangers have enough skill in their group of forwards that if they get one good bounce, they can change the momentum of this series. I think the Blueshirts find a way to get the win.

Prediction: Rangers moneyline (-130 at DraftKings)

Over/Under analysis

The Rangers have had a horrible showing defensively thus far in this series. In fact, they rank last in the playoffs in many of the following categories like Expected Goals Allowed (5.37), Scoring Chances Allowed (34.8), Slot Shots Allowed (21.3), Slot Passes Allowed (24.3), and last but not least, Rush Chances Allowed (9.5).

Igor Shesterkin has definitely not been at his best, but it is so clear that the team has performed extremely poorly in front of him. The Penguins haven’t been all that strong defensively either, but the difference is that they are scoring goals at will.

The Rangers have had some offensive spurts where they look dominant, and neither team has looked as good defensively as they did in the regular season. Through the first four games of this series, the Over has hit in every single game and I see that trend continuing tonight.

Prediction: Over 6 (-125 at DraftKings)

Best bet

The Penguins are coming into this game feeling hot as they have scored 14 goals in just the last two games. They may have been on home ice, but when you’re hot, you’re hot, so there isn’t any reason to believe that they will slow down tonight.

As far as the Rangers go, they will be a completely desperate hockey team, throwing everything they can at the net and I am not confident that Louis Domingue will be able to rise to the occasion.

I am expecting another offensive outpour for the fifth straight game in this series and I think the Over will hit.

Pick: Over 6 (-125 at DraftKings)
