The NHL has 18 games slated for this weekend with nine each on Saturday and Sunday. Without any football action for the first time in months, hockey gets a chance to shine.

Seven of those Saturday games start at 7 p.m. ET or later and those are the contests I’ll be looking at for some NHL player props. I’m targeting a few star forwards to get on the scoresheet on Saturday night.

Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets

Pierre-Luc Dubois 1+ Point (+112 at FanDuel)

Pierre-Luc Dubois has rejuvenated his career with the Washington Capitals this season and now gets a chance to face off against one of his former teams. Dubois played parts of three seasons with the Winnipeg Jets before Winnipeg traded him to the Kings in the 2023 offseason.

Dubois put up 40 points all of last season and already has 41 (11 goals, 30 assists) in 51 games this year. He’s been able to settle into a top-six role for the Capitals and their trade for him is paying off.

The young journeyman is also riding a three-game point streak with seven points in his last six contests. In fact, dating back to mid-December, Dubois has 20 points in his last 21 games and was held off the scoresheet in just five of those contests.

It’s expected to be a low-scoring game in Washington on Saturday night, but I can’t pass up these plus-odds for Dubois to record a point. He’s done so in 32 of 51 games (62.74%) this season and 16 of 24 (66.66%) at home.

Auston Matthews anytime goalscorer (+135 at FanDuel)

We have a great Hockey Night in Canada matchup on Saturday night with Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs visiting Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. Both teams should be able to get up for this game, especially the Leafs captain.

Matthews started off the season slow but still has 20 goals in 36 games. He’s in the midst of a two-game goal drought but that comes right after a streak of five games with a goal for the sniper.

Overall, Matthews has nine goals in 12 games since returning from injury on January 4th. He’s played well against Edmonton in his career with 13 goals in 19 games including one in each of last season’s two meetings.

Edmonton has been allowing at least a few goals per game and we’re getting Matthews here at +135 to light the lamp. I’ll take those odds against almost any team considering his 50% hit rate this season.

Filip Forsberg Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (-115 at DraftKings)

Filip Forsberg has been a one-man shooting gallery as of late. The Nashville Predators winger has not only gone Over 3.5 shots on goal in his last four games but had 5+ SOG in each of those contests.

On the season, Forsberg is averaging just over 3.5 SOG per game at 3.66 (183 in 50 games), but he’s trending way up recently. He has 40 shots in his last seven games, with 4+ SOG in six of those games, including 7+ in a pair.

Since January 7th, Forsberg has had 51 shots in 10 games and has gone Over 3.5 SOG eight times.

The Pittsburgh Penguins aren’t exactly the stingiest of opponents, with the fourth-most SOG allowed per game (30.9) this season. Pittsburgh is coming back from a long road trip so Forsberg and the Predators should be looking to take advantage on Saturday night.

And, of course, given Forsberg’s shot totals recently, this is a situation where you might want to look at 5+ SOG (+195), 6+ SOG (+425), or even 7+ SOG (+750) as a ladder.
