It was a winning day yesterday here and overall. This condensed card went 1-2 SU for a little profit while the NHL Puck Props show went 5-0 for over six units. The big break looms for the league, so stay cautious.
These are my three favorite NHL player props for Thursday, February 6.
NHL prop picks and best bets for February 6
Tavares + Nylander o0.5 points each (+120 at DraftKings)
Hronek o1.5 SOG + o0.5 points (+225 at bet365)
Guenther + Hayton o0.5 points each (+210 at bet365)
Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets
John Tavares + William Nylander Over 0.5 points each (+120 at DraftKings)
William Nylander is on a roll with five goals over his last three games, and the return of John Tavares has made this Toronto Maple Leafs second line possibly the more productive unit with Mitch Marner on the shelf.
It’s not a huge price, but the power play has looked great in Marner’s absence and this stack has hit in back-to-back games. My main worry is the inconsistent play of the Leafs following big games, but this is not a terrible matchup and Joey Daccord is coming off a four-goal game where the Seattle Kraken gave up 40 shots.
Whether it’s the power play or 5-on-5, I’d rather this line at +120 on the road for a point each than the Matthew Knies and Auston Matthews stack at the same price.
Filip Hronek Over 1.5 SOG + Over 0.5 points (+225 at bet365)
I have a lot invested in Filip Hronek tonight. Quinn Hughes has been ruled out for the Vancouver Canucks and Hronek is coming off a game where he played 7+ minutes of power-play time. He finished the 3-0 win over the Avs with two assists (one on the PP) and three SOG with a team-high nine shot attempts.
At his current prices, all his Overs are strong plays. His assist at +140 and 2+ assists at +750 for 0.6u are in the account. I also think you can move this SOG to 3+ which would move it to +425.
Those shot attempts are not priced in and a matchup vs. the worst GAA over the last 30 days and worst expected goals/60 at all strengths in the last 10 games is as good as it gets. The San Jose Sharks are rolling with Alex Georgiev or Vitek Vanecek with both tendies ranking in the bottom seven of the league in goals saved above expected/60.
Dylan Guenther + Barrett Hayton Over 0.5 points each (+210 at bet365)
The Columbus Blue Jackets have not played many Over games of late going 8-2 to the Under in their last 10, but they’ve also played eight of those games on the road. At home, this is a team that sees an average of 7+ total goals per game and is 19-7 O/U. There could be a decent chance of two-way scoring in Columbus tonight.
Sticking with second-line road stacks, Dylan Guenther returned to the Utah Hockey Club lineup on Tuesday and had two goals and an assist including the game-winner in OT. Barrett Hayton also had multiple points and the duo are a staple on the first power-play unit.
The second lines who also play PP1 are buys for me at +200 or better. I think the true price of this stack is closer to +160. I do like the Blue Jackets on the ML at +130 tonight, but this is the line to buy instead of Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz at +110.
