After years of toiling as a bottom-six forward with the Rangers, Filip Chytil has finally been allowed to spread his wings offensively with Vancouver.

The Vancouver Canucks are set to host the Montreal Canadiens at Rogers Arena tonight.

It's an important tilt featuring two clubs desperately fighting for a playoff spot. Montreal has lost its past two stops in Western Canada, while Vancouver has won four of its past five on home ice.

My top Canadiens vs. Canucks predictions are calling for Vancouver center Filip Chytil to fill up the shots column against Montreal tonight. Read more in my NHL picks for Tuesday, March 11,

My Canucks pick
Filip Chytil Over 2.5 shots (+117 at Pinnacle)

My Canucks analysis
The Vancouver Canucks have handed Filip Chytil a go-to role, and his shot volume has skyrocketed while recording three or more shots in eight of 12 games with the club.

Chytil is pacing the Canucks in both shots (36) and attempts (61), and his ice time is also up to 17:16 per game after averaging just 14:20 per night with the New York Rangers. His 10.42 shots per 60 minutes with Vancouver exceed his 9.08 mark with the Blueshirts, and he's also seeing consistent power-play time, averaging 2:42 per night compared to just 1:13 per game with the Rangers.

The 25-year-old center has also been a force in the possession game at five-on-five, boasting a team-high 57.4 Corsi For percentage since joining the Canucks, and Chytil is taking 70.7% of his 5-on-5 faceoffs in the offensive zone.

This is a cushy matchup for Chytil to pad the shots column because the Montreal Canadiens sport a 27th-ranked 47.9 Corsi For percentage and 28th-ranked 48.1% shot share at 5-on-5, and the Habs also spend the most shorthanded time per game in the league (5:19).

I expect Chytil to have plenty of shooting opportunities both at 5-on-5 and on the power play tonight.

Canucks vs Canadiens odds analysis

There hasn’t been enough action on either side of this moneyline to move the number significantly at Pinnacle. The Canucks opened as a -140 favorite and are trading at -141 as of Tuesday afternoon. Vancouver captain Quinn Hughes (undisclosed) has missed the past three games, and his status for tonight’s tilt will likely impact the odds once announced.

This total has seen a small move to the Under 5.5. Pinnacle opened with a -108/-106 split and is trading its 5.5 total at +102/-114 as of Tuesday afternoon. Vancouver has trended to the Under dating back to last season, sporting an active 2-10 O/U record.
