Today’s NHL Props and Best Bets for 10-20: Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, and Troy Terry

We've got a small three-game NHL slate on Sunday, but that doesn't mean there's no value to be had on the NHL player prop front. Find out why we are backing a pair of Jets to find the scoresheet vs. the Pens.

We have a three-game NHL slate on Sunday, with plenty of player props to choose from across the board.

I’ve compiled my three best NHL player props for Sunday. As always, make sure you keep an eye on the odds and available pricing due to the ever-changing nature of the player prop market.

Here are my free NHL picks in the player prop market for Sunday, October 20.

Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets

Prop bet #1: Mark Scheifele 1+ goals

+150 at bet365

Sunday’s opening game features the Winnipeg Jets hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins. Winnipeg has gotten off to a spotless 4-0 start to begin the campaign, which has been a product of excellent goaltending and efficient offense.

I want to focus on the offense in this specific matchup as the Penguins have struggled to keep the puck out of their net. Pittsburgh ranks in the bottom half of the league in goals allowed per game, shots on goal allowed per game, and penalty kill percentage.

Subsequently, goaltender Tristan Jarry has struggled behind the product in front of him. Jarry possesses a .836 SV% and 5.45 GAA through three starts.

That brings us to Mark Scheifele, who leads Winnipeg with four goals through four games. He skates on both the first line and the first powerplay unit, two equally opportunistic ways to score against the Penguins.

Unsurprisingly, Scheifele has scored seven goals over the past 11 meetings against Pittsburgh.

Prop bet #2: Kyle Connor 1+ goals

+120 at bet365

My thinking here is simple: I am confident that at least one of Scheifele or Kyle Connor scores in this game, which guarantees a profit. If both score, all the better.

Connor skates alongside Scheifele on the first line, which is expected to go against Anthony Beauvillier, Sidney Crosby, and Bryan Rust. That Penguins line possesses a 5.51 xGA/60.

Furthermore, Connor and Scheifele both skate together on the first powerplay unit, which could strike against a Pittsburgh team that ranks 19th in penalty kill percentage. Finally, at least one of Scheifele or Connor has scored in all four of Winnipeg’s games, while both have scored in two of them.

Prop bet #3: Troy Terry 1+ goals

+275 at bet365

Sunday’s nightcap features the Anaheim Ducks hosting the Los Angeles Kings. I want to fade goaltender David Rittich, who is expected to guard the cage for Los Angeles.

Rittich sports a .878 SV% through two starts this season and ranks 41st among the 51 goaltenders to have played at least two games in GSAx/60. That is good news for Anaheim’s Troy Terry, who leads the team with three goals through the first four games.

Terry also skates with the Ducks’ first powerplay unit, which could be due for a big outing against a Kings team that ranks 27th in penalty minutes taken per game and 20th in penalty kill percentage.
