Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets

Prop bet #1: Marco Rossi Over 0.5 points

+110 at BetMGM

The Minnesota Wild are handing Marco Rossi the gig between Kirill Kaprizov and Mats Zuccarello to start the season, and Minny lands in an excellent matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight.

Columbus surrendered the fourth-most goals and second-most expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 last year, and I consider this year’s roster even worse.

Rossi also has flashed chemistry with Kaprizov and Zuccerello with a solid 3.63 goals per 60 at 5-on-5 across 314:28 of shared ice time last season, and the 23-year-old center also racked up a pair of goals and three assists through four exhibition games.

Prop bet #2: Brock Nelson Over 2.5 shots

-110 at bet365

New York Islanders center Brock Nelson recorded a career-high 250 shots last season, and he’s a top-six staple at even strength who skates with the No. 1 power-play unit. Nelson recorded three or more shots in 51 of 82 games last year (62.9%), too.

The Utah Hockey Club, then the Arizona Coyotes, didn’t travel well last season, either. Arizona allowed the seventh-most shots per 60 minutes (32.2) on the highway with a floundering 47.9 Corsi For percentage at 5-on-5.

Prop bet #3: Michael Bunting Over 2.5 shots

+105 at bet365

The Pittsburgh Penguins were shelled 6-0 by the New York Rangers, and it’s a quick turnaround to face the Detroit Red Wings on the road. Pittsburgh put its lines in the blender, but Michael Bunting still recorded five shots and eight attempts while consistently skating in a scoring role alongside Evgeni Malkin.

Detroit projects as a favorable matchup, too. The Red Wings surrendered the seventh-most shots (32.01) and sixth-most attempts (64.3) per 60 minutes while sporting a 28th-ranked 46.0 Corsi For percentage at 5-on-5.
