Tuesday sees eight Champions League fixtures but the pick of the bunch is Dortmund vs. Man City, the two best teams in Group G with both competing to finish on top.
In that game back in September, we saw a masterclass by Dortmund’s English star Jude Bellingham. That didn’t matter and Man City still had the quality and the drive to not only level the scores but end up taking the three points. I’m expecting something similar from City this week but we’re getting +150 value on it.
It’s been a tough season for Dortmund. They currently sit fifth in Bundesliga despite hammering Stuttgart 5-0 this past weekend. They have a number of good players and they’re a relatively good team but they struggle with consistency. As shown by their results domestically, where they’ve won six, drawn one, and lost four, it feels like it’s often all or nothing with them.
You don’t know exactly what you’re going to get with Dortmund, which, unfortunately for them, is something you can’t say about Man City, who are so reliable that it almost feels boring. They, much like people say about Erling Haaland, are robotic. They just win games and they’ll win this one, too.
Through four Champions League games this season, Dortmund have scored nine and given up four, which isn’t great when you consider just how poor Sevilla and Copenhagen have looked. In that timeframe, we’ve seen Man City score 11 and concede just one goal, which was in the first meeting of these two teams. There’s simply a huge gulf in class between both teams now.
It’s so hard to find any value when you bet on Man City these days and this game is no different. Betting on the moneyline will get you odds of -160 at best, which really isn’t worth it. Instead, we’ll back Man City on a 1.5 handicap, meaning that they need to win by two clear goals. Since they last played Dortmund, they’ve won by two or more goals in five of seven games and they really should do the same again here.

Borussia Dortmund vs Man City side analysis
Man City are big favorites for good reason. They’ve been the better of the two teams this season by far. Man City might only be second in the Premier League but it’s clear to everyone, even the strongest Arsenal fan, that they’re the best team in the competition. Compare that to the Bundesliga where Dortmund are in fifth in a season in which all the bigger teams have struggled, albeit they are just four points off the top but they haven’t looked brilliant.
The difference between both teams will likely be Erling Haaland. Ironically the Norwegian was playing in Dortmund’s famous yellow jersey when these teams met last season in the Champions League but the German’s loss has been City’s gain and he’s been electric.
So far, he’s scored 15 goals in 10 Premier League games, including two this past weekend. He’s also added five goals in the three Champions League games. When you have a goalscorer of such quality on your team, it makes you immensely dangerous, and even when the team is struggling, you always have a chance of victory.
Haaland is the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle for Man City and he’s likely to be the decisive man when the teams meet on Tuesday.

If you’re planning on watching this game, then you should be in for a good one with the bookies expecting plenty of goals. They’ve set the odds for Over 2.5 goals at a best price of -198, implying a 66.4% chance that we see three or more goals. That probability looks about right to me but it isn’t the most attractive bet odds-wise.
The first meeting of these two teams finished with three goals. In their four Champions League games so far, we’ve seen 3.25 goals on average per Dortmund performance and exactly three on average in Man City games.
If you look at both teams domestically then Man City have seen Over 2.5 goals in 72.7% of their games so far with the Over also landing in 54.5% of Dortmund’s matches. The Over should land in this one but with odds of -198, I wouldn’t want to bet it.
