Things are starting to get tasty in the second round of Euro 2024 games and we have an important Group C matchup on Thursday in Denmark vs. England.
The Danes drew to Slovenia in their opener and need to pick up points but now face the tournament favorites in England, who beat Serbia 1-0 in the first game.

Thursday’s game isn’t quite in must-win territory for either team, but it would help immensely.
Denmark drew 1-1 against Slovenia in a game where they were favorites. England beat Serbia 1-0, although it was far from inspiring. The question is: What can we learn from those two games to help us ahead of the sides meeting on Thursday?
The answer to that revolves around Jude Bellingham. The England ace scored the only goal on Sunday and looked every bit the player that’s won La Liga and the Champions League this year. He looked dangerous on the ball, admittedly more so in the first half, and the Serbians were terrified of him. They solved the problem of his talents by continually fouling him.
We saw Bellingham fouled four times by Serbia, but in truth it probably should have been more. Serbian defenders would go in harder on him and look to make a statement but got away with it on a number of occasions before the ref began to act. Nobody on the pitch was fouled more than him yet he still put up an impressive performance with a Man of the Match result. However, we have seen the blueprint on how to beat him, by kicking lumps out of him every time.
That brings us to Denmark and finding the player most likely to do that in their lineup, and that should be Morten Hjulmand. The 24-year old started alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in their midfield against Slovenia but it was the Sporting Lisbon player who sat deepest, protecting the Denmark defense, and he even picked up a booking in the process.
A look at his most recent season playing in Portugal shows a player well versed in fouling, averaging 1.4 fouls per game and picking up a staggering 12 cards in 30 games. He’s a player who’ll likely get stuck into England and in particular Bellingham on Thursday, with Bellingham operating in his section of the pitch. At +180, we’re getting a good price on Hjulmand picking up his second card of the tournament as Denmark try to stop England’s danger man.

My analysis
We’ve already spoken about the threat that Bellingham can offer England and how rival teams are fearful about him. His 13th-minute header on Sunday was only his fourth England goal in 30 games for his country but he’s very much England’s most dangerous player alongside Harry Kane.
Bellingham’s now playing in the same advanced role for England that he has done for Real Madrid in this past season, where he’s scored 19 goals in 28 La Liga games for Los Blancos and another four in the Champions League. Playing higher up the pitch makes it easier for him to get involved in attacking transitions, and he often finds himself making runs into the box to create chances. He’ll continue to be a major goal threat here.

In addition to our best bet, we’re also going to back England to win. They weren’t exceptional against Serbia by any means, but they were very professional and in the second half you got the feeling that they could have attacked more if they’d wanted to.
It was a pragmatic display which probably sets the tone for England’s tournament; keep it tight at the back and protect a weak backline. That should help us land not only England winning, but also Under 2.5 goals here.
