Liverpool vs Arsenal Predictions and Picks: Gunners Step Up On the Road

With Man City faltering, both Liverpool and Arsenal will be in search of picking up three points. The table is tight at the top, and although both teams will be hungry, our EPL picks believe the Gunners' advantage in the midfield will lead them to victory.

The Premier League title race heats up this weekend as Liverpool and Arsenal collide at Anfield, with just a point separating these two heavyweights in the table.

Liverpool flexed their muscles in midweek with a 5-1 victory over West Ham in the Carabao Cup quarterfinal, rebounding impressively from a disappointing goalless draw against Manchester United last weekend.

It’s been a rockier December for the Gunners, but they made it three wins out of four in the league this month after sinking Brighton on Sunday thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.

Read on for my free Liverpool vs Arsenal EPL picks and predictions ahead of this December 23 showdown.

EPL predictions for Liverpool vs Arsenal

With Manchester City faltering in recent weeks, Liverpool and Arsenal will both know they have to cash in before the champions rediscover their best form. That sets the stage for a thriller at Anfield this weekend.

Looking at this matchup, Liverpool had won all seven home games in the league this season before the 0-0 draw with United. That’s a compelling case for the hosts, but I see a few cracks appearing with the Reds’ lengthy injury list.

While Liverpool are piecing things together in midfield, Arsenal arrive with Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard pulling the strings. That feels like a key battleground and I’m giving the visitors the edge.

Likewise, I see the Reds missing Andy Robertson’s experience at left back against Bukayo Saka, who scored twice against Liverpool last year.

If the Gunners are going to banish the ghosts of last season and finally recapture the Premier League, this is the kind of game where they have to bring an aggressive mindset and look for more than just a draw. They’ve taken 16 points from their eight road games in the league so far, and that’s another reason for optimism.

Mikel Arteta called for his players to be more ruthless after a string of missed chances against Brighton, and I’m picking Arsenal to respond with a gritty performance to leave Anfield with three precious points.

Both teams to score - Yes

Mo Salah Over 0.5 shots on target

There’s surely too much attacking talent on show in this top-of-the-table clash for a cagey stalemate to unfold. With both clubs looking to capitalize on City’s missteps, I expect an open game that cashes the BTTS – Yes prop.

Recent matchups point to a high-scoring contest too. These teams have served up at least four goals in four of their past six meetings and, despite a long list of midfield injuries, their first-choice strikers are largely available.

I’m also looking for Salah to have a busy outing as the hosts’ No. 1 threat. He was on the scoresheet against West Ham on Wednesday and, whether he adds to his 11 Premier League goals or not, I’m betting on him to test David Raya at least once on Saturday.

Liverpool vs Arsenal side and Over/Under analysis

Liverpool’s excellent home form makes them slight favorites with the sportsbooks here but these teams are well-matched, as the current Premier League standings suggest. This will be a good test of whether the Gunners have extra steel for the title race this year — and it’s a test I’m picking the visitors to pass.

Though Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold only made 30-minute cameos on Wednesday, other Reds starters logged a full 90 minutes, and Arsenal should be the fresher team after some rest days in midweek.

The Gunners have conceded the joint fewest goals in the league on their travels (seven), and it’s hard to trust the inconsistent Darwin Nunez as the spearhead of the Liverpool attack.

I expect the hosts to attack in numbers, creating chances of their own but also opening the door for the kind of lightning transitions that Arsenal thrive on — and that brings some interesting Over/Under picks into play.

Last season’s meetings brought a sackful of goals, with the Gunners winning 3-2 in North London, followed by a 2-2 draw at Anfield. There’s not a lot of standalone value in the BTTS prop, but the Over on 3.5 goals is worth a look.
