Monday serves us up one of the Premier League’s most iconic meetings with Liverpool vs. Newcastle. There’s something nostalgic whenever these two giants meet and Monday’s clash under the floodlights of Anfield will hit the same.
Liverpool entered the weekend at the top of the Premier League, while Newcastle are struggling to keep pace with the Champions League spots and will need a big second half of the season to regain UCL competition next year.
Can they kickstart that with a win at Anfield? Don’t miss our free betting picks and predictions for Liverpool vs. Newcastle on Monday, January 1 to find out.

EPL predictions for Liverpool vs Newcastle
Nothing beats Premier League games under floodlights, and this Monday we have what could be a hugely exciting matchup between Liverpool and Newcastle. These two clubs have had very different fortunes so far this season, but when they meet there are often fireworks.
Liverpool come into this in a great position. They entered the weekend top of the table and they look like they’re in a title battle against Arsenal, with Man City potentially waiting in the wings if either club stumbles. Only two clubs have outscored Liverpool and nobody has allowed fewer goals, and they’re playing at an elite level right now as they’ve begun to welcome back some of their injured players in recent weeks.
The same can’t be said for Newcastle, who find themselves near the bottom of the top half and the pressure has begun to mount of Eddie Howe. Last year he was acclaimed for leading Newcastle to the Champions League spots but now, just months later, we are talking about his job security. I would argue that Howe has been unlucky, as he’s being judged against last season in which the team overachieved while rivals struggled. The injury crisis at Newcastle has only compounded the issue.
That brings me to my best bet, which is for the game to be level at halftime with Liverpool going on to win in 90 minutes. You can get this halftime/fulltime market at a huge +345, which feels like real value to me.
Newcastle, despite missing some key players, came into this weekend tied for the fourth-best defensive record. They’re not as good as they were last season but they’ve still not been easy to score against. Howe will surely set them up to keep things tight against this exceptional Liverpool attack.
Both Liverpool and Newcastle have seen halftimes come this season with scoring level. In nine of Liverpool’s 19 games they’ve been tied after 45 minutes, something that has occurred eight times for Newcastle.
With Newcastle desperate for a point, they’ll come to Anfield set up to avoid a loss. But while they might manage to avoid going behind for the first half, they won’t be able to keep Liverpool out for long. Liverpool have only scored 17 goals in the first half of games this season, but that rises to 22 in the second halves of games. They also have an incredible defensive record, allowing just five second half goals. That’s 50% of the nearest team in Arsenal, who have given up 10.
Liverpool have great attacking options and after a hard start against Newcastle, they have all the talent to be able to break the deadlock in front of the Anfield crowd and leave with three points.

Liverpool vs Newcastle same-game parlay
This is a big price +2,200 same-game parlay for Liverpool vs. Newcastle that builds on our best bet for the game. I’m expecting a strong defensive performance from the away side to try and snatch a point at Anfield, but they should ultimately come up short as Liverpool manage to score in the second half.
Next, we’re going to back Mohamed Salah to score. The Egyptian has scored 12 times in 19 Premier League games so far this season and it feels like we’ve almost become accustomed to his brilliance, but we really do need to think about special he is. He’s been Liverpool’s best player again this season and if anyone will break the deadlock against Newcastle, it’s this man.
Finally, we’ll be finishing our SGP with Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes getting booked. The Brazilian has already picked up 11 bookings for Newcastle across all competitions. He’s an incredible player but his competitiveness can often lead to him giving up fouls and getting booked. I think he is the prime candidate to get booked against what is a very good Liverpool midfield.

Liverpool vs Newcastle side and Over/Under analysis
The best bet features Liverpool winning after a level first half, so that should indicate how I’d recommend betting this game on the moneyline. Liverpool are a very good side and they really should be winning this one. However, at odds of -225, I don’t think the risk is worth the reward, which is why I’d prefer to bet on the halftime/fulltime market.
You can get the draw at +390 or an away win at +600. I can’t see Newcastle winning but +600 is a huge price considering some of the players in their team.
Goals are a certainty according to the bookies, with Over 2.5 goals coming in at -238 and Under 2.5 at a big +185. I actually think Under 2.5 goals is a really good price here, and I’ll be backing that. If this game is level at halftime, then there’s a very good chance that it’s scoreless and we wouldn’t see three or more second half goals. I could easily see this finishing 1-0 or 2-0, and I’d recommend Under 2.5 goals here.
