NEW YORK -- Cameron Maybin started a three-run seventh inning with a tiebreaking homer and had three hits as the Los Angeles Angels recorded an 8-3 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.
Maybin began the decisive inning for Los Angeles when he lined a 1-0 changeup from Tyler Clippard (1-4) into the left-field seats. It was his fifth homer, surpassing his total in 94 games for the Detroit Tigers last season.
Yunel Escobar hit an RBI triple off the left-field wall off Clippard and Luis Valbuena added an RBI single through a drawn-in infield during the inning off Jonathan Holder. Valbuena added a solo homer in the ninth for the Angels' final run.
Maybin extended his hitting streak to 10 games and recorded his fifth three-hit game of the season as the Angels (37-37) reached the .500 mark for the 18th time this season.
Those hits occurred after the Yankees came back from a 3-0 deficit by getting solo homers from Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez. Despite the duo homering in the same game, it was not enough to prevent the Yankees from losing a seventh straight contest for the first time since April 20-27, 2007.
Judge made it 3-2 by hitting his major league-leading 24th homer with two outs in the fifth. With one out in the sixth, Sanchez tied the game by hitting his 12th homer of the season off Blake Parker (3-2), who was awarded the win when the Angels came right back.
Before the Yankees came back from the early deficit, Maybin doubled and scored on a single by Albert Pujols in the first. The Angels added two unearned runs in the second on a double by Danny Espinosa and a single by Calhoun.
Parker Bridwell made his second career start for the Angels and allowed two runs and five innings while working around five walks.
The Yankees' Michael Pineda started slowly but increased in effectiveness after the second inning and allowed three runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.
The Angels took a 1-0 lead when the first three hitters of the game reached and Pujols lined a single to left. Following a fielding error by first baseman Chris Carter to start the second, the Angels took a 3-0 lead on Espinosa's double and Calhoun's single.
The Yankees finally broke through against Bridwell in the fourth and fifth.
Starlin Castro opened the inning with a single and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Chase Headley. Judge made it a one-run game with two outs in the fifth by driving a 2-1 fastball into the center-field seats.
