ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado blew out the candles on Mike Trout's birthday cake.
On his 26th birthday, Trout, the Los Angeles Angels center fielder, had two hits to give him 1,001 for his career, including his 23rd home run of the season.
However, Machado clubbed a tiebreaking grand slam in the seventh to lift the Orioles to a 6-2 win Monday night.
The win was the 14th in 21 games for the Orioles (56-56), who have moved from also-ran in the American League to within 1 1/2 games of the second wild-card spot, currently shared by the Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays.
Dylan Bundy (11-8) went seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks. He struck out a career-high 10.
The Angels (55-58) took their third loss in a row.
Trout tied the game 2-2 with his home run, pulling a 3-2 Bundy pitch down the left field line and off the left field foul pole. It was the fourth time Trout has homered on his birthday, doing it as well in 2012, 2013 and 2015. It was also his fourth home run in six games.
The Orioles got to Angels starter JC Ramirez in the seventh.
Seth Smith and Welington Castillo singled with one out. Ramirez struck out Joey Rickard for the second out and had Adam Jones in a 0-2 hole when his pitch ran in and struck Jones' left hip to load the bases.
Machado followed by clubbing a 1-0 Ramirez pitch into the left field bleachers, a 423-foot shot, for his first grand slam of the season and fourth of his career. It was his 21st home run of the year.
Ramirez (10-10) allowed six runs, eight hits and two walks in seven innings. He pitched well until the seventh, with one of two Orioles early runs coming on a bloop single.
Trout's fourth-inning double made him one of just four players to have 1,000 hits, 500 runs and 500 walks before his age-26 season, joining Mickey Mantle, Jimmie Foxx and Mel Ott. It also made him the 10th player in AL history with 1,000 hits by his age, a list that includes six Hall of Famers: Ty Cobb, Al Kaline, Robin Yount, Foxx, Mantle and Ken Griffey Jr.
Trout already was the first player with 150 home runs and 150 stolen bases before his 26th birthday.
Mychal Givens worked the eighth, getting Trout to pop out with a runner on, and Brad Brach pitched the ninth.
Trout led off the fourth with a double into the left field corner for his milestone hit. He eventually scored on Kole Calhoun's sacrifice fly to center field for a 1-0 Angels lead.
The Orioles jumped in front 2-1 in the fifth. Tim Beckham continued his hot streak since coming to Baltimore with a leadoff single, and went to second on an errant pickoff throw by Ramirez. Smith worked a full-count walk to put two on.
Castillo flied to right to move the runners up. Rickard lofted a bloop single to center that shortstop Andrelton Simmons just missed on a diving try, with Beckham scoring and Smith going to third.
Jones flied out deep to Trout in center to score Smith.
Ramirez was hit on the shoulder by the large end of Trey Mancini's broken bat in the second inning. Mancini's bat splintered on a foul ball and the biggest part hit the pitcher, jagged end first. Trainers came out to make sure Ramirez wasn't bleeding before the inning continued.
