NEW YORK -- Miami Marlins left-hander Adam Conley continued to thrive against the New York Mets and at Citi Field on Sunday afternoon when he struck out a career-high 11 over seven strong innings and earned the win as the Marlins beat the Mets 6-4.
The Marlins (60-62) won two of three from the Mets (54-68) and have won seven of their last nine overall. New York has lost seven of nine.
Conley (6-5) allowed just one run -- a first-inning homer by Yoenis Cespedes -- and three hits and two walks in improving to 3-1 with a 1.87 ERA in nine games (seven starts) against the Mets. He is particularly dominant at Citi Field, where Conley is now 3-0 in three starts while allowing just two runs in 19 innings over three starts.
Christian Yelich had three hits, including a pair of infield RBI singles, for the Marlins, who scored four times in the seventh on Giancarlo Stanton's three-run homer -- his major-league-leading 45th round-tripper of the year -- and Marcell Ozuna's run-scoring single. Dee Gordon had two singles, two stolen bases and three runs scored.
The Mets pulled within 6-4 against Odrisamer Despaigne and Kyle Barraclough in the eighth, when Cespedes hit an RBI double, Wilmer Flores lofted a sacrifice fly and Travis d'Arnaud (2-for-3) laced a run-scoring single. But Barraclough whiffed the potential tying run, Amed Rosario, and Brad Ziegler earned his sixth save with a one-hit ninth.
Jacob deGrom (13-7) took the loss for the Mets after allowing five runs on 10 hits and no walks while striking out eight over 6 1/3 innings.
NOTES: The Mets acquired minor league RHP Jacob Rhame from the Los Angeles Dodgers as the player to be named later in the trade that sent OF Curtis Granderson to the Dodgers on Friday. Rhame, who was 0-2 with a 4.31 ERA and two saves in 41 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, will be assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas. ... Mets RHP Matt Harvey (shoulder) will make his third rehab start, and his first for Double-A Binghamton, on Monday. ... Marlins LHP Jarlin Garcia (left biceps) threw a bullpen Sunday and could be activated from the disabled list when eligible on Tuesday. ... Marlins OF Ichiro Suzuki struck out as a pinch hitter in the eighth and remains one hit shy of tying the team's single-season record for pinch hits, which is held by Ross Gload (21 in 2009).
