LOS ANGELES -- Charlie Blackmon and DJ LeMahieu hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the fifth inning to give the Colorado Rockies the lead for good in a 5-4 victory over the sagging Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.
They were the only hits of the night for the dynamic duo, but they did plenty of damage as the Rockies have now won consecutive games against the team with the best record in baseball following a disappointing 3-6 homestand.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, continue to circle the drain, losing a season-high eighth consecutive game, while dropping 13 of their last 14. They remain a baseball-best 92-49, but have not won consecutive games since Aug. 24 and 25.
Rockies starter German Marquez rebounded from a rough first inning to hold the Dodgers scoreless over the next three. Four Rockies relievers then kept the Dodgers without a run the rest of the way, with Greg Holland picking up his 38th save.
Chris Rusin (5-0) picked up the victory with two scoreless innings.
The Dodgers fell into an early 1-0 hole after a home run by the Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez, but they found a way to respond this time.
The Dodgers' Justin Turner had an answer with a home run of his own, a two-run shot in the first inning that was his 19th of the season. Later in the inning, backup catcher Austin Barnes delivered a two-run single. That gave the Dodgers a 4-1 lead.
Dodgers starter Yu Darvish started to take control, striking two in the second inning and two more in the third. On his strikeout of Gonzalez in the fourth inning, he reached the 1,000-strikeout plateau, becoming the fastest in major league history to do so.
Darvish was not only the fastest to 1,000 in games (128), he was also quickest in innings (812). Now in his fifth major league season, Darvish pitched for the Texas Rangers until the trade deadline this season when he was moved to the Dodgers.
Things started to unravel for Darvish and the Dodgers in the fifth inning. A one-out double from Alexi Amarista was followed by a walk to Jonathan Lucroy. After a wild pitch moved the runners up a base, pinch hitter Raimel Tapia delivered a two-run double to cut the Dodgers lead to 4-3.
The Rockies put an end to Darvish's day in the fifth inning with the RBI doubles from Blackmon and LeMahieu, grabbing a 5-4 lead in the process.
Darvish (2-3) went 4 1/3 innings, giving up his five runs on five hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.
Turner and Barnes not only had the Dodgers' only RBIs of the night, each finished with two hits. Five Dodgers relievers combined to keep the Rockies scoreless over the final 4 2/3 innings.
