MILWAUKEE -- Brandon Woodruff struck out six and the Milwaukee Brewers' offense produced an eight-run inning for the second time in three games en route to a 10-3 victory over the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon at Miller Park.
Woodruff (2-2) went six innings, providing a much-needed break for Milwaukee's bullpen, which covered 14 innings over the last two nights. He held Miami to three runs on eight hits and didn't walk a batter.
Dillion Peters (0-3) got off to a good start but was hit hard late in his 3 2/3-innings stint. The rookie left-hander was charged with eight runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out four.
Peters cruised through his first three innings, working around a handful of singles, but gave up three straight hits to open the fourth and fell behind, 1-0, on Manny Pina's RBI single.
A pair of strikeouts brought up Woodruff, but he kept the line moving with a walk to load the bases and Hernan Perez made it a 2-0 game when he dove into first ahead of Derek Dietrich's throw.
Domingo Santana came through with the big hit, doubling to the gap in left. That cleared the bases and gave Milwaukee a 5-0 lead. Peters intentionally walked Braun to bring up left-handed hitter Travis Shaw but that move backfired as the Brewers made it 6-0 when Shaw dropped a pop fly into shallow center.
Woodruff gave three of those runs back in the bottom of the inning -- two of them coming on a double by Ichiro Suzuki -- but limited the damage and allowed just a single over his final three innings of work.
Ryan Braun tripled and scored on Shaw's sac fly in the sixth, giving the Brewers an insurance run. Shaw drove in his third run of the day with a single in the eighth.
