Aaron Sanchez and four relievers made the most of a three-run first inning Thursday night, combining on a two-hit shutout as the San Francisco Giants opened a seven-game homestand with a 3-0 victory over the Miami Marlins.
Curt Casali drilled a two-out, two-run single off Miami starter Daniel Castano (0-1) in the Giants' three-run first, an uprising that produced all the game's scoring.
The shutout was the Giants' second straight over the Marlins. Alex Wood, who is San Francisco's scheduled starter Friday in the second game of the series, combined with four relievers for a 1-0 win when the clubs capped a three-game set in Miami on Sunday.
Sanchez (1-1) worked the first five innings Thursday, allowing two hits and no walks. He struck out two.
He allowed a game-opening single to Jazz Chisholm Jr. and a two-out single to Jon Berti in the second inning before retiring the last 10 batters he faced.
Gregory Santos worked a 1-2-3 sixth inning, Matt Wisler used a double play to erase a leadoff walk in the seventh, and Tyler Rogers retired the side in order in the eighth. Jake McGee struck out the side in the ninth as the bullpen completed the two-hitter with four innings of no-hit relief.
McGee, who recorded his seventh save of the season, needed just 16 pitches to record his flawless feat in the ninth.
Castano gave up hits to three of the first six batters he faced. He allowed only two other hits in his five-inning outing and left charged with three runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Marlins relievers Zach Pop and John Curtiss combined to shut out the Giants on no hits over the final three innings.
The Giants' rally in the first began after Castano retired the first two batters.
Mike Yastrzemski got the uprising going with a double, after which Evan Longoria drew a walk.
Darin Ruf opened the scoring with an RBI double, knocking in Yastrzemski, before Casali made it 3-0 with his single to left field.
Austin Slater had a single and a double for the Giants, who out-hit the Marlins 5-2.
