Brandon Woodruff threw seven shutout innings and the host Milwaukee Brewers beat San Diego 5-3 on Monday to end the Padres' nine-game winning streak.
Manny Pina and Avisail Garcia homered to give the Brewers a quick lead, and Milwaukee went on to win its third in a row.
Woodruff (3-2) allowed three hits and no walks while striking out eight, lowering his ERA to 1.41. Two of his three wins have come against the Padres, a team he has held to one run on four hits and three walks with 15 strikeouts in 13 innings.
The Brewers scored five runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings against Padres starter Blake Snell (1-1). The long ball and three walks doomed the left-hander, who fanned seven.
Milwaukee's Willy Adames drew a two-out walk in the second, and Pina followed with his fourth homer of the season, a 426-foot drive to left-center to give the Brewers a 2-0 lead.
Garcia opened the fourth with his eighth homer of the season.
Keston Hiura, who was recalled from Triple-A Nashville earlier Monday, followed with a single. Adames and Pina then walked to load the bases with no outs. Snell retired former Padre Luis Urias on a foul popout and struck out Woodruff before Kolten Wong lined a two-out, two-strike, two-run single to right.
Wong's hit knocked out Snell, who produced his second-shortest outing of the season.
In the ninth, Tommy Pham put the Padres on the board with a two-run homer off Angel Perdomo. Josh Hader subsequently gave up an opposite-field, run scoring double to Eric Hosmer before closing the game out for his 11th save.
The Padres' only challenge against Woodruff came in the first inning. Jake Cronenworth and Fernando Tatis Jr. hit back-to-back singles with two outs, but Hosmer lined out to third baseman Urias.
After Cronenworth singled to lead off the fourth, Woodruff (12 hitters) and Brad Boxberger (three) retired 15 Padres in a row until Jurickson Profar drew a leadoff walk from Perdomo in the ninth.
