Philadelphia Phillies vs Miami Marlins Match Player Stats On May 25, 2021

Rhys Hoskins slugged a two-run homer off a 99 mph fastball, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 2-0 win over the host Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.

Vince Velasquez (2-0) pitched six scoreless innings in his best start of the season. He allowed three hits and three walks and struck out five in a big rebound from last week, when he was scratched from a scheduled start against the Marlins due to numbness in his right index finger.

Sam Coonrod, Jose Alvarado and Hector Neris each pitched one scoreless inning for the Phillies, who won for just the third time in their past 10 games. Neris earned his eighth save of the season.

The Phillies improved to 9-15 on the road, as compared to 15-10 at home.

Miami's Sandy Alcantara (2-4), who beat the Phillies last week, took the loss this time. He allowed just two hits, one walk and two runs in eight innings. Alcantara fanned four.

Even with the loss, the Marlins have won six of their past nine games. However, they are just 11-11 at home this season.

Marlins rookie leadoff batter Jazz Chisholm Jr. was thrown out twice on the bases. In the first inning, he made the third out trying to steal third base. In the sixth, he tried to stretch a single into a double. He slipped coming around first and was thrown out by center fielder Odubel Herrera.

In the ninth, Chisholm left the game with an apparent leg injury.

Both teams placed key players on the injured list prior to the game: right fielder Bryce Harper for the Phillies and third baseman Brian Anderson for the Marlins.

Miami loaded the bases with two outs in the third, but Jesus Aguilar hit a hard liner right to left fielder Brad Miller, ending the threat.

Philadelphia got on the board in the fourth on Hoskins' homer off Alcantara. Hoskins fouled off three two-strike pitches before getting a fastball up in the zone.

Miami threatened again in the seventh, putting runners on the corners before Jon Berti grounded out to end the inning. The Marlins went down quietly in the eighth and ninth frames.
