Victor Reyes scored on a wild pitch with one out in the ninth, giving the Detroit Tigers their second consecutive walk-off victory over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, 4-3, on Saturday night.
Detroit squandered a two-run lead in the top of the ninth, but Bud Norris (3-5) gave it back in the bottom of the inning.
Reyes reached on a two-base error by first baseman Matt Carpenter. Jeimer Candelario walked, and Jim Adduci sacrificed to move up both runners. Nicholas Castellanos was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Norris bounced the first pitch he threw to Victor Martinez.
Marcell Ozuna tied the game with two outs in the ninth on his third homer in two nights. Carpenter reached on an infield hit, and after closer Shane Greene (4-6) got the next two outs, Ozuna lifted his 21st homer just over the left field fence.
Matthew Boyd struck out a career-high 11 batters in a dominating seven-inning performance for Detroit. He allowed one run on two hits and walked just one.
Cardinals starter Jack Flaherty allowed three runs on four hits and struck out six in five innings. Paul DeJong hit his 17th homer.
Boyd took command right from the start, striking out the side in the first. His teammates supported him with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Candelario, who hit a walk-off, two-run homer on Friday, drew a walk. An Adduci single and Castellanos walk loaded the bases. With Martinez at the plate, Flaherty threw a wild pitch, allowing Candelario to score. Martinez's sacrifice fly brought home Adduci with the second run.
Detroit tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth when Reyes reached on an infield single and came all the way around to score on Candelario's bloop hit.
Boyd got a big assist from left fielder Mikie Mahtook in the fifth. Mahtook raised his glove above the left field wall to rob Harrison Bader of a home run.
DeJong ended the shutout bid when he drilled an opposite-field shot to lead off the eighth.
