Arizona left fielder David Peralta had three hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs, and Jon Jay scored the winning run in the ninth inning on a throwing error in the Diamondbacks' 5-4 interleague victory over the Los Angeles Angels at Chase Field on Tuesday.
Jay was hit by a pitch from Cam Bedrosian (5-3) to open the ninth inning, and John Ryan Murphy beat out a bunt down the first base line. A.J. Pollock followed with a bunt toward the mound, and Bedrosian threw wildly to third base to permit the winning run to score.
The Diamondbacks have won five of six, and they moved 1 1/2 games ahead of Colorado in the National League West after the Rockies lost at home to San Diego on Tuesday.
David Fletcher had three hits and two RBIs, Andrelton Simmons had two hits and an RBI and Kole Calhoun had two hits for the Angels, who have lost four of five.
Arizona left-hander Patrick Corbin gave up five hits and two runs in six innings, with eight strikeouts and two walks. The Angels tied it with one out in the third inning. Calhoun doubled and scored on Fletcher's single. After Albert Pujols walked, Simmons singled to drive in Fletcher. With Justin Upton and Mike Trout on the disabled list, Simmons hit cleanup for the fourth time this season.
Arizona made it 4-2 in the third inning. With one out, Pollock was hit by a pitch before four straight singles by Escobar, Peralta, Paul Goldschmidt and Steven Souza Jr.
Jeffry Marte's pinch-hit homer with two outs in the seventh inning cut the Angels' deficit to 4-3, and Fletcher followed Calhoun's line single off Arizona reliever Andrew Chafin with a triple into the right-field corner off Archie Bradley to tie it at 4.
