My Blue Jays vs Red Sox best bet: Kevin Gausman Over 5.5 strikeouts (+108 at FanDuel)
Even with Max Scherzer’s injury woes, the Toronto Blue Jays have to be pleased with what they’re getting from their starting rotation. Bowden Francis has continued his stellar late-2024 form while Easton Lucas looks like he belongs in the big leagues — but it’s Kevin Gausman who still feels like the rock of this rotation.
Gausman is 4-1 in his last five starts with a 2.45 ERA, and I see him dealing tonight against the Boston Red Sox on the way to a big strikeouts haul. He’s had the upper hand against the Red Sox righties — Alex Bregman and Trevor Story are a combined 5-for-38 in this head-to-head matchup — and Boston hitters struck out 12 times in last night’s 6-1 loss.
Rafael Devers and Jarren Duran will pose the biggest threats, but I see Gausman navigating the top of the order and building on a steady start to the year. He hasn’t put up big strikeout numbers through his first two outings, but Gausman has memories at Fenway Park, including seven strikeouts in a 2023 visit and 6+ Ks in all three visits in 2022.
The veteran righty has lasted six innings in his last two matchups against the Red Sox, and a similar spell on the bump here should be enough to cash the Over on 5.5 strikeouts.
Boston has managed just three runs on 13 hits so far in this series, and while the temperatures will be a little higher tonight, that doesn’t necessarily mean the hosts’ bats will warm up.

These teams haven’t overworked the scoreboard in their recent clashes, and I’m buying into that trend. The Under is 8-2 in the last 10 Toronto-Boston matchups, and the Blue Jays have cashed the Under in each of their past nine contests.
We’ve got two strong starters taking the ball here in Gausman and Tanner Houck, and the visitors’ bullpen has been steadier so far in this series. Toronto can count on Jeff Hoffman and Yimi Garcia tonight with neither pitching yesterday.
Runs may come at a premium, but I still see Anthony Santander doing some damage at the plate here. He’s made a quiet start to life as a Blue Jay, but there’s plenty to like about his 4-for-14 record against Houck, including two RBIs.
Santander is still looking for his first homer of the year, but he’s been chipping in. He served up an RBI last night despite an 0-for-5 outing, and he’s no stranger to Fenway after his years with the Baltimore Orioles.
