Playing for his dad Jim Boeheim, Buddy Boeheim had 16 points to lead Syracuse over Cornell and his brother Jimmy Boehem 72-53 on Wednesday night in a nonconference game at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y.
The Orange (3-1) were led by 22 points from Elijah Hughes, who also contributed seven assists. Marek Dolezaj led Syracuse with eight rebounds.
Jimmy Boeheim had a game-high 25 points for the Big Red (1-4). Jordan Jones added 15 points and five rebounds off the bench.
The Boeheims took center stage throughout with each leading their team in field-goal attempts.
Buddy Boeheim made 6 of 18 shots, including 4 of 13 from beyond the arc. Jimmy Boeheim went 7 of 16 from the field, 2 of 7 from 3-point range, and he made 9 of 11 from the free-throw line. At one stretch late in the game, Buddy Boeheim made a 3-pointer and Jimmy Boeheim answered with one of his own drawing a loud cheer from the crowd.
Syracuse, which led 26-25 at halftime, was not able to gain separation until the Orange went on a 9-2 run to take a 44-35 lead with 13:15 left in regulation.
Dolezaj made two jumpers and Buddy Boeheim made a 3-pointer in that run, which started after Jimmy Boeheim made a 3-pointer for Cornell.
After Jimmy Boeheim made two free throws to cut Syracuse's lead to 44-41 with 9:56 remaining, the Orange went on a 13-3 run to take control of the game. Quincy Guerrier had eight of his 10 points in that stretch.
Cornell struggled from the field, shooting 35.0 percent, including 22.2 percent (6-for-27) from 3-point range. Syracuse shot 47.2 percent from the field and 37 percent (10-for-27) from 3-point range. The Orange tallied 18 assists on 25 made field goals.
Before the game, it was announced that Syracuse guard Jalen Carey is out for the remainder of the season with a right thumb injury that requires surgery.
