Emmitt Williams and Trendon Watford scored 18 points each and host LSU used a 25-2 second-half run to pull away from New Orleans in a 90-54 non-conference victory Tuesday night.
Charles Manning Jr. added 13 points, Darius Days had 12 points and 10 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double and Javonte Smart added 12 points as the Tigers (6-2) improved to 5-0 at home.
LSU made just 5 of 21 3-pointers but enjoyed a 13-point scoring advantage at the foul line. The Tigers had just 10 turnovers one game after having a season-low seven in a victory against Missouri State last Friday.
Bryson Robinson, who has scored in double figures in every game this season, had 18 points, Jaylen Key had 13 and Troy Green scored 10 to lead the Privateers (3-5), the preseason pick to win the Southland Conference.
LSU scored the last eight points of the first half and the first four of the second to take a 42-30 lead.
Key made a jumper for New Orleans' first points of the second half and Robinson added a 3-pointer that pulled the Privateers within seven points before the Tigers started to open up the lead.
Watford's three-point play started a 10-2 run that gave the Tigers a 52-37 lead.
New Orleans got within 58-46 on Green's jumper midway through the half, but Days and Watford scored six points each during the run that gave LSU an 83-48 advantage with 3:51 remaining.
The score was tied three times early before Robinson's 3-pointer and Jahmel Myers' jumper gave New Orleans a 17-14 lead.
Robinson made another 3-pointer as the Privateers took a 24-18 lead.
A 3-pointer by Watford helped LSU take a two-point lead before Key's basket evened the score at 30.
Williams' layup gave the Tigers the lead for good and New Orleans failed to score in the final 2:23 of the half. LSU led 38-30 at halftime.
