COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- DJ Hogg scored 18 points and No. 9 Texas A&M raced by Savannah State 113-66 on Wednesday night at Reed Arena.
The Aggies improved to 9-1 with two games left in the nonconference season before opening SEC play. A&M took control with a 17-3 run before halftime and cruised in the second half.
The Aggies had seven players score in double figures, including all five starters, as coach Billy Kennedy emptied the bench liberally. A&M shot 50.6 percent from the floor and 43.2 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.
Tyler Davis racked up his second double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds in only 24 minutes. Tonny Trocha-Morelos scored 10, set career high with seven assists and tied a career high with 13 rebounds.
Admon Gilder scored 15 and Duane Wilson added 14 points. Off the bench, JT Starks chipped in 12 points and Chris Collins had 10 points. Starks also had six boards.
The Aggies closed the first half with a 10-0 spurt as part of a 17-3 run to take a 52-33 lead into the break. Gilder had 13 points in the first half.
Savannah State (3-9) has lost three in a row. The Tigers, in the midst of one of the toughest nonconference schedules in the country, have games coming up against No. 21 Baylor, No. 16 Virginia and No. 2 Michigan State before beginning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play.
Javaris Jenkins paced Savannah State with 18 points, and knocked down four 3-points on 7-of-15 shooting. Dexter McClanahan and Zach Sellers each had 10 points.
