Senior shooting guard Caleb Martin had 24 points and four steals to lead No. 12 Nevada to an 89-73 victory over UNLV on Wednesday night at Reno, Nev.
Senior forward Cody Martin recorded a season-high 23 points and added eight assists for the Wolf Pack (26-2, 13-2 Mountain West), who lead Utah State by a half-game in the conference. Nevada and the Aggies meet Saturday at Logan, Utah.
Senior forward Jordan Caroline contributed 20 points and 12 rebounds for Nevada, which won its 17th straight home game dating back to last season.
Sophomore guard Amauri Hardy scored 19 points, and senior guard Kris Clyburn added 18 for UNLV (15-13, 9-7). Senior guard Noah Robotham tallied 16 points for the Rebels, who shot 44.4 percent from the field and were 9 of 26 from 3-point range.
Nevada shot 53.3 percent from the field, including 13 of 27 from 3-point range.
The Wolf Pack had a comfortable 19-point lead after Caroline's layup with 9:36 remaining before UNLV made a charge.
Hardy hit two 3-pointers during a 12-4 surge as the Rebels pulled within 71-60 with 7:23 left.
Cody Martin responded with a 3-pointer, and he scored eight straight Nevada points to give the Wolf Pack a 79-64 lead with 4:28 remaining.
Clyburn's layup pulled the Rebels within 81-68 with 2:30 left, but Nevada senior guard Corey Henson answered with a 3-pointer 23 seconds later.
Caroline drained a 3-pointer with 1:27 remaining and added a layup 22 seconds later to make it 89-71 as the Wolf Pack closed it out.
Caroline and both Martins scored 13 apiece in the first half as Nevada held a 46-28 advantage.
Caleb Martin's jumper gave the Wolf Pack a quick 20-9 lead with 14:15 left in the half. Cody Martin later scored five straight points to make it 28-15 with 7:53 left.
Caleb Martin buried back-to-back 3-pointers to account for the 18-point halftime lead.
The lead reached 20 for the first time on senior forward Tre'Shawn Thurman's dunk that made it 61-41 with 13:37 remaining.
