Tiger-Cats 13, Argonauts 12: Zach Collaros threw for 317 yards against his former team as host Hamilton opened Tim Hortons Field with a Labour Day Classic victory.
Collaros was 27-of-38 and connected with Bakari Grant for a touchdown for the Tiger-Cats (2-6), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Running back Mossis Madu recorded 122 combined yards, while Antonio Coleman had two of the team’s four sacks.
Ricky Ray struggled, completing 16-of-29 passes for 142 yards, an interception and a touchdown toss to Trent Guy for Toronto (3-7), which lost its third straight. Tristan Okpalaugo recorded his team-leading eighth sack and forced a fumble.
Hamilton strolled to a 10-1 lead in the first quarter while the Argonauts managed eight total yards on offence. Guy fumbled on the opening kickoff, which set up a 29-yard field goal for Justin Medlock, and Collaros found Grant for a 9-yard score 7:06 into the contest.
Ray pulled Toronto back into the game with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Guy with 22 seconds left in the first half and the Tiger-Cats were unable to add to their lead in the second half despite numerous chances. Collaros got Hamilton to the 1-yard line but Jeremiah Masoli fumbled on the next play 5:07 into the fourth quarter and Justin Medlock missed a 47-yard field goal with 3:24 remaining.
