Stampeders 40, Argonauts 33: Jon Cornish completed the comeback with his second touchdown as host Calgary rallied from a 26-point deficit to defeat Toronto.
Cornish rushed for 174 rushing yards while Bo Levi Mitchell was 19-of-29 for 128 yards and two touchdowns for the Stampeders before leaving with a leg injury in the fourth quarter. Drew Tate tossed the final two touchdowns for Calgary (10-1), which also lost Marquay McDaniel, Charleston Hughes and Demonte’ Bolden to various injuries.
Ricky Ray completed 33-of-38 passes for 338 yards and four touchdowns for the Argonauts (3-8), who lost their fourth straight game. Shane Horton forced two fumbles and Jermaine Gabriel caught an interception.
Cornish scored on a 79-yard rush 6:10 into the third quarter to close the gap to 32-18 and Mitchell threw a 14-yard touchdown to Brad Sinopoli with 5:07 remaining in the period. Tate took the field and completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jabari Arthur with 5:03 left in the fourth quarter, tying the game with a two-point conversion pass to Cornish and connecting with Cornish again for a 25-yard TD pass with 1:48 remaining for the winning touchdown.
Ray was on fire in the first half, recording 155 passing yards in the first quarter and finding Andre Durie, Trent Guy, Spencer Watt and Jason Barnes for touchdowns. Mitchell connected with Sederrick Cunningham for a 12-yard TD to give the Stampeders some momentum with 38 seconds remaining in the first half.
GAME NOTEBOOK: McDaniel left in the first quarter with an arm injury, Hughes and Bolden left in the third quarter with leg injuries and Mitchell hurt his left leg in the fourth. … Calgary SB Nik Lewis reached 11,000 career receiving yards in the contest and has 11,037. … The Stampeders improved to 7-0 against East Division opponents and extended their winning streak to six games.
