Alouettes 23, Redblacks 17: Jonathan Crompton threw for 216 yards and a touchdown as visiting Montreal won its fifth straight contest.
Crompton completed 17-of-29 passes, connecting with S.J. Green for a TD for the Alouettes (8-8), who recorded four sacks and five turnovers as they moved two points ahead of Hamilton for first place in the East Division. Tanner Marsh also scored a touchdown while Bear Woods led the defence with a sack and an interception.
Henry Burris and Dan O’Brien split time under centre for Ottawa (2-14), combining for 221 passing yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Scott MacDonell and Marcus Henry each hauled in a scoring pass.
Burris got the Redblacks on the board first with a 5-yard TD toss to Henry 4:21 into the game, but Crompton responded by driving Montreal 97 yards on the following possession that concluded with Marsh’s 1-yard touchdown run. A pair of field goals by Sean Whyte in the second quarter gave the Alouettes the advantage, and Green had an 11-yard scoring reception 3:15 into the second half to give them some breathing room at 20-7.
Burris was picked off by Woods on Ottawa’s first play after Green’s touchdown, leading to another field goal by Whyte. MacDonell’s 58-yard TD catch brought the Redblacks within six points early in the fourth quarter, but Montreal’s defence stifled any further comeback attempts.
