Kerry Collins threw a touchdown pass in relief of an injured Vince Young and Rob Bironas kicked three field goals as the Tennessee Titans rolled to a 30-3 victory over the host Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night.
Collins finished 11 of 16 for 110 yards and a 2-yard scoring pass to tight end Bo Scaife after Young was forced to leave the game in the first quarter with a sprained knee.
Chris Johnson rushed for 111 yards and added a 35-yard scoring run in the final two minutes as the Titans (4-2) joined Indianapolis and Houston in a three-way tie atop the AFC South. Jacksonville (3-3) dropped a game behind.
Johnson registered his eighth consecutive 100-yard game on the road, moving within two games of tying Barry Sanders’ NFL record.
Jacksonville also lost its starting quarterback when David Garrard absorbed a hard hit by Will Witherspoon late in the first half.
Trent Edwards replaced Garrard and finished 14 of 24 for 140 yards and two interceptions – one of which was ripped out of his receiver’s hands in the end zone. Maurice Jones-Drew was limited to 57 yards on 17 carries.
Tennessee led 17-0 at halftime. Young tossed a 23-yard scoring pass to Kenny Britt before he was injured midway through the first quarter when his leg got twisted under a pile on a fumbled snap.
Collins doubled the lead with his scoring pass to Scaife with 8:22 left in the half. An interception by Michael Griffin set up the score.
