Last Meeting ( Nov 21, 2019 ) Philadelphia 5, Carolina 3

The Philadelphia Flyers' struggles on the road have been prevalent all season, but the club's disastrous starts during their current three-game losing skid have been downright troubling. The Flyers look for a better beginning on Tuesday when they conclude their season-high six-game trek against the Carolina Hurricanes.

"We gave up three goals in the first, and you're not going to win many games giving up three goals in the first," Philadelphia center Sean Couturier said on the heels of Saturday's 6-2 setback to Arizona. The 27-year-old has collected five points (three goals, two assists) on the road trip, but the Flyers have been outscored 11-3 during the first period and 23-12 during those games. Philadelphia resides one point behind fourth-place Carolina in the Metropolitan Division, but the Hurricanes' ascent has been stalled by losses in five of their last seven contests. "Disappointing, for sure, but we haven't had really one of those (bad games) all year. That's the first one for me where I can say I was disappointed in that," Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour said following Sunday's 3-1 setback to Tampa Bay.

TIME: 7 p.m. ET. TV: NBCS Philadelphia, FS Carolinas

ABOUT THE FLYERS (22-15-5): Captain Claude Giroux (team-leading 13 goals) has tormented Carolina in two games this season, as he collected a goal and an assist in Philadelphia's 4-1 win on Nov. 5 before adding two of each in a 5-3 victory on Nov. 21. Travis Konecny has recorded four (one goal, three assists) of his club-best 36 points against the Hurricanes, and he enters Tuesday's contest with six (two goals, four assists) in his last six outings overall. Jakub Voracek recorded six of his team-leading 25 assists during a three-game stretch before being held off the scoresheet versus the Coyotes.

ABOUT THE HURRICANES (24-16-2): Andrei Svechnikov scored for the fifth time in seven games on Sunday to boost his career totals in goals (38) and points (78), which are more than any other player in the 2018 NHL Draft class. The second overall pick of that draft has 18 goals while his 41 points are tied for the team-lead with Teuvo Teravainen, who scored and set up a goal in Carolina's 5-3 loss to Philadelphia on Nov. 21. All-Star defenseman Dougie Hamilton and center Sebastian Aho have four fewer points than Svechnikov and Teravainen, making the Hurricanes the lone NHL team to have four players with at least 37 points entering play on Monday.

OVERTIME

1. Carolina C Lucas Wallmark has scored a goal in both games versus Philadelphia this season.

2. Flyers D Justin Braun has recorded five points (two goals, three assists) in his last six contests.

3. Hurricanes D Brett Pesce carries a career high-tying, three-game assist streak into Tuesday's encounter.

PREDICTION: Flyers 3, Hurricanes 2
