Gastelum vs Heinisch Betting Preview

Kelvin Gastelum comes in as the No. 9 ranked contender in the middleweight division, despite losing three consecutive fights. That said, each of those defeats came against some of the best fighters in the division in Israel Adesanya, Darren Till and Jack Hermansson.

The 29-year-old won the The Ultimate Fighter 17 way back in 2013, but has had mixed success since moving to the 185-pound division in 2016. Gastelum is a solid wrestler but is more well-known for his hand speed and boxing, preferring to slip into the pocket where he can do damage.

Ian "The Hurricane" Heinisch enters as the No. 15 ranked middleweight contender and is fresh off a first-round TKO win against Gerald Meerschaert last June. That victory snapped a two-fight skid for Heinisch who is now 3-2 in his UFC career.

The 32-year-old is a relative latecomer to the sport of MMA, turning his life around after serving prison sentences in Spain and at Rikers Island. Heinisch has a background in wrestling, twice winning the high school state championship in Colorado, and has shown improved striking due to his Muay Thai training

Gastelum vs Heinisch UFC Prediction and Betting Pick

PREDICTION: Kevin Gastelum by points +105 - Heinisch's Muay Thai looked very sharp in his previous fight, but Meerschaert is a grappling specialist who has never looked comfortable on his feet.

On the other hand, Gastelum stood toe-to-toe with the best striker in the world in Israel Adesanya, earning Fight of the Night honors and landing 182 significant strikes in an impressive losing effort.

Gastelum is three years younger than Heinisch but has far more experience against UFC foes, and has fought several fighters with a skill set similar to The Hurricane. However, Heinisch has never faced anyone with Gastelum's caliber of stand up.

Gastelum's boxing technique, power and ability to win inside exchanges should allow him to damage Heinisch. That said, Heinisch is tough as nails and has never been finished by strikes in his career. With three of Gastelum's last four fights going the distance, look for him to take this via points.
