Stallions vs Renegades Odds, Picks, and Predictions Week 1: Defense Dominates in UFL Kickoff Game

The Birmingham Stallions and Arlington Renegades each boast a title from their respective leagues in 2023, but there will still be a feeling-out process as the UFL gets underway, and our betting picks see points being tough to come by.

The newly-created United Football League, which was a merger between the USFL and XFL, will kick off on Saturday afternoon in Arlington in a battle between the defending USFL champion Birmingham Stallions and defending XFL champion Arlington Renegades.

The Stallions are returning most of their roster but will need to replace their quarterback for a second straight season. The Renegades are returning most of their skill position players but will need to replace most of their line on both sides. Which former league champion will make their mark on this new league and cover in the UFL odds this week?

Here are our free betting picks and predictions for Stallions vs. Renegades at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington, TX on Saturday, March 30.

Stallions vs Renegades predictions

The Birmingham Stallions completely dominated their two seasons in the USFL, winning the championship each time and finishing with a 21-3 overall record in both regular season and postseason play. The first year, they did it with J’Mar Smith at quarterback, and last year they did it with Alex McGough under center. Now they will need to try another new quarterback.

While Smith is still on this team, he is unlikely to be the starter with Matt Corral joining the Stallions after his short NFL stint. Another big addition to Birmingham this offseason is wideout Amari Rodgers. Rodgers spent four seasons in the NFL and while most of his action was in the return game, he did have 12 catches for 154 yards and a touchdown in six games for the Houston Texans.

The Renegades went a mediocre 4-6 in the regular season last year, but still made the playoffs due to finishing in second in their division. They took that opportunity and ran with it upsetting both the 7-3 Houston Roughnecks and 9-1 DC Defenders to take the only XFL championship in the rebooted version of the league. They do, however, have to replace four of their five starting linemen on offense.

On defense, the Renegades added a former NFL Pro Bowler in edge rusher Vic Beasley. Beasley’s NFL career ended in 2020 but had a resurgence last season in the XFL for the Vegas Vipers and was the first overall pick in the XFL defensive front seven draft. His addition should be a massive get for Arlington, especially early in the season as they work with a new offensive line.

Last season, Birmingham only allowed 12 points in the first two weeks and won their opening game 27-10. Arlington only averaged 12.8 points per game at home last year and never allowed more than 28 points in any game all season. Early in the season, these numbers should hold with several new players joining each team.

With Birmingham welcoming in a new quarterback and a new wideout and Arlington having a brand-new offensive line, I expect both offenses to take some time to get into their groove. New league, new players, and several key defenders on both sides just screams towards taking the Under here and that is what I am going to roll with.

My best bet: Under 42 (-110 at DraftKings)

Stallions vs Renegades same-game parlay

Under 42

Birmingham -3.5

With no player props available, we will just keep it simple with a spread and total parlay here.

While both teams are defending champions of their leagues, one team truly was the best team in their league all year, while the other got fortunate with a bad division and got hot at the right time.

Birmingham has a lot more to lose here and should be the more talented team with more recognizable names to NCAA and NFL fans. I like Birmingham to take this game and cover the spread.
