Several Las Vegas sportsbooks will undergo renovations in 2017

Among the renovations to the entire property, the small sportsbook at Hooters Casino Hotel will get a facelift and double in size.

As last year ended I made some wishes for the new year - a few of those wishes are already coming true. There are new sports betting apps and there have already been app improvements (kudos to Miomni for releasing their first wifi compatible sports betting app). The Golden Nugget app looks similar to others using the software (Westgate, Station, Wynn, Boyd) but uses their own lines and odds and is accessible via wifi.

The most important wish I had for 2017 was for some new sportsbook experiences. There were at least 10 renovated sportsbooks in 2016 and I was looking for more improvements in 2017. Well, we’re off to a flying start!

Three casinos have already announced sportsbook renovations for 2017. This batch of renos will take place on the Vegas Strip, just off the Vegas Strip and about 20 minutes away from the action.

Wynn - Wynn will be closing its sportsbook for renovations in April. When the book reopens it will have new screens, a new betting counter, and a new bar. Construction is expected to be complete by August. If there’s a delay the sportsbook should still be open in time for kickoff of the football season. I don't think Wynn would allow the work if that wasn't baked into the construction agreement. There will be a temporary sportsbook located at the Encore during construction.

Suncoast
- If you're not from Las Vegas, or don't leave the Vegas Strip, you may not be familiar with The Suncoast. This Boyd Gaming casino-resort is located about 20 minutes away from the Vegas Strip near Summerlin. Their sportsbook will also begin renovations in April. The focus of this renovation will be improving the viewing experience with a high-definition video wall. This would be a great improvement to the current TV’s and screens the sportsbook offers. It's a modest renovation and should be completed in time for the Kentucky Derby.

Hooters - This casino located just off the Vegas Strip may become a hidden gem for low rollers. Hooters is next to the Tropicana and across the street from MGM Grand on Tropicana Blvd - about a two-minute walk from the Vegas Strip. Earlier this year the hotel-casino announced a $20 million property-wide renovation. Among the renovations to the entire property, the small sportsbook will get a facelift and double in size. This William Hill operated book may be a good option to avoid lines at the busier sportsbooks nearby.

I don't have any new details, but Monte Carlo will be closing their sportsbook in April. This closure is part of the property-wide renovations that will make this casino become Park MGM in 2018. I’m told the sportsbook will be relocated but haven’t found out a location or the size of the new digs. We should hear news about the move soon.

This is a great start for sportsbook renovations, but there are more than a few other books in Las Vegas that could use a facelift. I wouldn't be surprised to hear more renovations announced in the next few months.
