WrestleMania 40 picks

Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns

Cody Rhodes shocked the wrestling world when he made his return to WWE in 2022, and he had one thing on his mind: finish the story. Rhodes wanted to win the one title his Hall of Fame dad Dusty Rhodes never did, and that was the WWE Championship.

After failing to win against Roman Reigns at last year's WrestleMania, Cody won the 2024 Royal Rumble to earn a rematch against Roman in Philadelphia. Although some real shenanigans happened behind the scenes with The Rock returning, WWE quickly pivoted to assure fans we'd be getting Rhodes vs. Roman II at WM40.

The story that's played out over the last several weeks of Monday Night Raw has seen The Rock and Reigns get the upper hand on Cody, further building him up as the mega good guy WWE has been missing since John Cena. That has me leaning to the company finally pulling the trigger and ending Roman's 1,300+ day reign in Philadelphia.

It makes sense storyline-wise, and Rhodes has recently confirmed he signed a contract extension with WWE. He's already left them before due to creative differences and he would have resigned again if he wasn't happy with what's to come. Rhodes finally finishes the story and walks out of WM40 with the strap

Pick: Cody Rhodes to win (-425)

Seth Rollins & Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns & The Rock

As a sports entertainment company, WWE has pegged several matches as "the biggest ever", but when people say this is the biggest tag match in history that may be an understatement.

The Rock hasn't wrestled a full match since 2013 when he lost to Cena, and fans have been clamoring for his in-ring return since. Once Rock became a member of the board of directors for TKO — the WWE/UFC merged company — it became a real possibility he would come back. It was found out part of his contract with TKO was for him to wrestle at this year's WM, which is how we got here.

The original plan was Rock vs. Roman, a match fans had been wanting for years, but the timing was off as the WWE universe was ready for Rhodes to take the belt from Reigns. The online outrage caused WWE to turn Rock heel, which led us to this tag-team match.

This match comes with an interesting stipulation as the main event of Mania 40 Night One. If Cody and Seth Rollins win, Rhodes gets Roman 1-on-1 with no outside interference allowed — the very thing that cost him the title last year.

However, if the Rock and Roman win, the WWE Title match on Night Two will be "Bloodline Rules" which means anything goes. With the way the story has been told on TV I think it's pretty obvious Seth and Cody are taking the loss in this match.

They've continued to stack the odds against Rhodes and have booked The Rock like an absolute beast. This will just be one more thing Cody has to overcome on his way to beating Reigns on Sunday night.

Pick: Roman Reigns & The Rock (-700)

Drew McIntyre vs Seth Rollins

Just like Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins also has another match at this weekend's event. Rollins puts his World Heavyweight title on the line against Drew McIntyre, who has had a total resurgence in recent months. McIntyre has been booked like a top guy since losing the Rumble and won the Elimination Chamber in Perth to earn this title match.

The last time Drew held WWE gold was during the pandemic era when he won the world title in an empty performance center due to COVID restrictions. This has been a big talking point in the rivalry with Seth, and it's one of the of many reasons I think "DM Hunk" walks out of Philly as the champ.

Another big reason for that is because of some real life contract negotiations. Drew's contract ends shortly after Mania and he reportedly has yet to reach a deal with WWE. Well, interesting news came out this week in regard to that, as WWE announced they'll be hosting Clash at the Castle on June 15... in Glasgow, Scotland!

Glasgow just so happens to be where Drew McIntyre is from. My guess is a deal will get reached and the company will want Drew as the champ heading into his own stomping grounds. Rollins has been champ for 300+ days and has gone on record saying how beat up his body is. Losing the title will give him a much deserved break, and I think that's exactly what happens Sunday.

Pick: Drew McIntyre to win (-650)
