Le'Veon Bell vs Uriah Hall betting preview
Bell is following in the footsteps of faded greats such as Frank Gore and Jose Canseco, believing that his athleticism should naturally transition to boxing. At the same time, Hall is following his UFC brethren to trade the octagon for the ring in hopes of greener pastures. While both men make their professional boxing debuts, they are still representatives of two vastly different worlds.
Hall's MMA career ended this year following a decision loss to Andre Muniz last July at UFC 276. While he may not have lived up to the expectations of many in the UFC, Hall’s bread and butter was his striking, where he scored 13 stoppages in 17 wins. “Prime Time” fought at 185 pounds, so he should have no issues with conditioning or rust against a total novice.
The former Pittsburgh Steeler standout Bell saw his NFL career spin out of control to the point where he was out of the league eight years after turning pro. With little recourse, Bell made his unofficial ring debut in an exhibition bout versus fellow ex-running back Adrian Peterson last month. Bell knocked Peterson out in the fifth round.
There is the chance that Hall’s long career has left him spent, and the lure of the paychecks that helped UFC retirees Ben Askren and Tyrone Woodley might be the only thing motivating him. That might give Bell the chance to declare himself the toughest football player in boxing should he score the win.
Larry Merchant often called boxing “The theater of the unexpected,” and that statement has never been more true ahead of this unusual fight.
Le'Veon Bell vs Uriah Hall boxing prediction and best bet
Prediction: Hall moneyline
Hall has been a professional fighter for almost 20 years. Bell has been one for all but a month. On top of that, Hall was a competent striker in his prime and demonstrated a solid technique with his consistency usually being his downfall. When he did come apart, it was often against elite competition that used him as a springboard toward a title shot.
As far as Bell goes, we saw everything we needed to see in the Peterson exhibition. While fit and explosive, Bell looked tense, kept his hands down, and was generally stiff. Any professional fighter seeing that will know they're in for a short night of work.
Hall had what some would consider a disappointing career, but he tested himself against the best, and he should have enough pride that he won't accept a loss to a disgruntled running back. We’re going with Hall for the win.
Prediction: Uriah Hall moneyline (-480 at FanDuel)
Best Bet: Hall moneyline
It will be a surprise if this fight goes the distance, even if it's scheduled for four rounds. Unless there is a gentlemen’s agreement between these two, expect Hall to get a sense of what Bell can do in the first round before not wasting any additional time in the second.
Expect Hall to make a good account of himself and not give Bell a moral victory. While no alternative markets are available besides the moneyline as of writing, keep an eye out on Hall by second-round knockout closer to fight night.
Prediction: Uriah Hall moneyline (-480 at FanDuel)
