Logan Paul vs Conor McGregor fight analysis

The long-standing feud between Conor McGregor and the Paul brothers is escalating, as the "Notorious" one recently announced he’ll face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. While details remain scarce, a McGregor vs. Paul fight doesn’t need much promotion to become one of the biggest events in boxing for 2025. This bout might not even mark the end of the feud between McGregor and the Paul clan.

Time has not been kind to McGregor. Once a living MMA legend who transcended the sport, he's now more infamous for his out-of-sport controversies than his accomplishments inside the cage. He has lost three of his last four UFC fights, most recently when he suffered a brutal leg injury in his loss to Dustin Poirier via doctor stoppage at UFC 264 in 2021.

McGregor’s much-hyped return to the octagon against Michael Chandler was repeatedly delayed and ultimately scrapped, with McGregor’s instability cited as the primary reason. In 2017, McGregor made his boxing debut, suffering a 10th-round TKO loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

At his peak, McGregor was one of the most dynamic strikers in UFC history. However, there are serious doubts about his current form — both physically and mentally — as he is now well past his prime and burdened by various legal issues. In his most recent run, McGregor was stopped in each of his last three UFC losses, being outstruck 154-107 in those defeats.

Logan Paul, while not as invested in boxing as his brother Jake, is an exceptional athlete with far less wear and tear from a lengthy sports career. Paul has competed in four exhibition boxing matches: a loss and a draw against rival streamer KSI, a draw against Floyd Mayweather, and a disqualification win over McGregor associate Dillon Danis.

Outside of boxing, Paul has carved out a successful career in the WWE, where he has impressed against seasoned veterans and even held the United States title for a spell.

Paul will likely enjoy significant physical advantages over McGregor. Standing 6-foot-2 to McGregor’s 5-foot-8, and typically fighting around 190 pounds, Paul will tower over McGregor, who has never fought above 170 pounds. Additionally, Paul has consistently been in fighting shape over the past few years while McGregor has battled injuries, inactivity, and ring rust.

However, Paul’s technique is severely lacking and missing the fine-tuning that his brother has experienced in his more active role as a proper boxer.

The elder Paul focuses more on power than finesse, and his game plan will likely center on closing the distance, engaging McGregor in close quarters, and imposing his physical will. If McGregor’s mobility is compromised due to the lingering effects of the Poirier injury, Logan’s size and strength could quickly become overwhelming.

Some early odds have Paul shockingly a narrow favorite at -145 and McGregor a +115 underdog — other books have them even at -115 apiece. Perhaps McGregor’s fall from grace in recent years is making bettors cautious about his chances, but we expect this line to remain razor-thin up until the fight is formally announced.
