Friday Night Football in Week 9 features an East Division clash between the 6-1 Montreal Alouettes and 2-5 Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Although Hamilton is riding a two-game win streak, my Alouettes vs. Tiger-Cats predictions expect Montreal to have the upper hand with Cody Fajardo returning under center.

Let's get into it with our CFL picks for August 2.

Alouettes vs Tiger-Cats prediction

My best bet
Alouettes -4.5 (-110 at FanDuel)

My analysis
After missing last week with a hamstring injury, quarterback Cody Fajardo is back in the fold for the Montreal Alouettes when they travel to Steeltown to take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Fajardo boasts a 113.3 passer rating through six games this season, including two starts where he threw for 370+ yards. Montreal's starting QB now faces a Ticats defense that has been getting shelled in 2024, allowing the second-most points per game (29.7) and getting off the field on second downs at just a 52.9% clip.

Despite being without Fajardo in Week 8, the Alouettes defense continued to shine by shutting out the Roughriders in the second half of a 20-16 win. Montreal's pass defense remains tops in the league, allowing an 80.4 passer rating through seven games, including giving up only three completions of 30+ yards.

That will come in handy against Bo Levi Mitchell, as the league leader in touchdown passes has been forced to throw often for a Hamilton side that is used to trailing early and often. With the Ticats' two-game win streak consisting of wins against a banged-up Argos team and an 0-7 Elks squad, take the defending Grey Cup champs to cover on the road in Steeltown.

Alouettes vs Tiger-Cats same-game parlay (SGP)

Alouettes -4.5

Tyson Philpot Over 5.5 receptions

Tyson Philpot Over 77.5 receiving yards

Tyson Philpot remains one of the breakout stars in the CFL this year, trailing only BC's Alexander Hollins in both receiving yards and touchdowns.

With the Canadian wideout being targeted a league-high 51 times this season, Cody Fajardo should be looking to get his No. 1 wideout involved early against the Ticats' defense, letting Philpot's breakaway speed do the rest of the talking.

Despite Fajardo being sidelined last week, Philpot was targeted 11 times by backup QB Davis Alexander. His receiving totals are far too low ahead of this Week 9 clash in Hamilton.
