The Elks have won their last two matchups against Calgary, and all signs point to Edmonton standing tall again on Saturday.

The Calgary Stampeders host the Edmonton Elks in CFL action on Saturday afternoon.

Edmonton won the first two meetings between these rivals this year, and my Elks vs. Stampeders predictions don't see this going any differently.

Here are my best free CFL picks for the Battle of Alberta on October 12.

My analysis
The Edmonton Elks are on a three-game skid, but two of those losses came against the red-hot Blue Bombers, and they had a close defeat last week against the playoff-bound Roughriders.

They'll have a much easier task this week against the Calgary Stampeders, who have the worst record in the league and are 0-6-1 straight up and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven. That stretch includes a pair of defeats against Edmonton in September, where Calgary lost by scores of 35-20 and 37-16.

Both of these defenses are terrible, with the Elks surrendering a league-high 7.19 yards per play and the Stamps barely ahead of them with 7.15 yards allowed per play. That said, I'm more confident in Edmonton's offense which leads the CFL in first downs (345) and touchdowns (49) while ranking second with 28.1 points per game.

The Elks are going back to Tre Ford at quarterback after starting McLeod Bethel-Thompson in the last two games. Ford took the starting job from MBT earlier this year and played very well until he faced Winnipeg's elite defense in Week 16 and was benched in the fourth quarter.

Ford has elite mobility, and his ability to throw on the run or take off downfield makes him a matchup nightmare against a Stamps defense that doesn't generate much pressure and allows a league-worst 6.4 yards per rush.

Meanwhile, Calgary's turnover-prone offense averages a league-low 23.0 ppg with a league-high 38 giveaways. It won't be able to keep pace with Edmonton's explosive attack here.

Elks vs Stampeders same-game parlay (SGP)

Elks moneyline

Over 50.5

The previous two meetings went above the total despite Jake Maier throwing four interceptions in Week 13 and Logan Bonner throwing five picks the following week. The Elks rolled up a whopping 1,020 yards in those contests, but the Stampeders were also able to move the ball.

Calgary coach Dave Dickenson is leaning towards starting veteran QB Matt Shiltz this week, and as long as the Stamps don't turn the ball over at that sky-high rate, they should hang points on the board.
